Position Description
The School of Art in the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Visiting Assistant Professor to begin August 19th, 2024.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach topics in 2d animation, story development, video production, intro to digital art, etc., focusing on helping students create portfolios relevant to studio arts and various industry-related contexts. Our program seeks to interweave existing strengths in traditional studio media with expanded offerings in technology-driven fields.

Major/Essential Functions
This is a one-year visiting assistant professor position with a 3/3 teaching load. As such, the majority of the job expectations are related to teaching your assigned undergraduate courses. Other duties include mentoring students in the Transmedia emphasis area, attending school meetings when appropriate, and working with the coordinator of Transmedia to maintain lab spaces and check-out equipment for students in the area.

In line with TTUs strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Required Qualifications
  • MFA in Animation/Digital Media/Studio Art, or BFA with substantial professional experience in active client-based work or other significant evidence of creative/professional practice in industry.
  • Ability to teach courses in 2d animation, story development for animation, introduction to video, and intro to digital art.
  • Strong portfolio illustrating expertise in the field of digital art and animation.


Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • One or more years of teaching experience at the university or college level.
