This primarily in-person position will staff the Oregon City Campus, Veteran Education Training Center, Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with Friday currently being a remote student services work day.

Purpose of Position

:

Veteran Services Coordinator is responsible for a comprehensive veterans' services program that focuses on student-veteran success through individualized service and connections to resources and benefits. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and College regulations and policies. Manage processes and procedures that result in military-connected students receiving timely payment and timely access to assistance.

Essential Job Functions

:

Support Veteran Student Success and Retention (40%)

  1. Provide superior customer service to ensure veterans and military-connected students have the Veteran Affairs (VA), DoD, college, academic, logistical, and moral support to succeed.
  2. Ensure timely payment of VA benefits and delivery of needed resources.
  3. Track student academic issues and assist with VA/DoD/College debit mitigation and appeal processes.
  4. Manage a team of certifying officials and student-veterans focused on individualizing services for student success.
  5. Oversee the VA Work-Study program--selecting, training, and coordinating the work of student-veterans focused on providing personalized customer service and peer mentorship.
  6. Oversee the College's Veteran Education Training Center, ensuring that operations are always welcoming and available for veterans and military-connected students to access information, assistance, resources, and support
  7. Routinely communicate (using various means) with students to maximize connections and receive valuable feedback.
  8. Train and educate all new student-veterans on benefit processes and strategies for college success.


Compliance (20%)

  1. Manage Veteran Affairs (VA) certification, all uniformed services' / Department of Defense tuition assistance, military waivers (Fallen Oregon Service Member Tuition Waiver), the VA's vocational-rehabilitation program, and MyCAA (military spouse) processes, in compliance with changing requirements, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
  2. Coordinate with student accounts and the CCC Bookstore to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and debts.
  3. Assist individual students with VA, college financial aid, and academic waivers and processes to respond in a timely manner, avoid debt, and support retention.
  4. Help manage budgetary decisions related to annual training requirements, VA certification fees, the veterans "Pay-It-Forward" grant program.


Veteran Center Support and Promotion (20%)

  1. Increase awareness of unique challenges and difficult VA systems facing student-veterans among CCC faculty, staff, and College leaders.
  2. Increase awareness throughout the community of the many educational opportunities and benefits offered to veterans and military-connected students.
  3. Participate in community events, County partnerships, governmental processes, and local veteran support efforts to enhance awareness of CCC programs and support veteran needs.
  4. Act as the college point-of-contact for all veteran resource providers, donors, community partners, government partners, employers, businesses, and veteran-focused grant providers.


Outreach, Recruiting and Fundraising (20%)

  1. Plan and conduct events focused on giving veterans a sense of belonging to increase student success and retention.
  2. Lead fundraising events focused on the MFSE / College Foundation to continue growing the pay-it-forward and scholarship opportunities for veterans and military-connected students.
  3. Plan and conduct various veteran-themed events to increase CCC's visibility in the veteran community and help with veteran recruiting and retention activities.
  4. Lead the Student Veterans of America-sanctioned chapter of CCC's student-veteran club.
  5. Increase awareness of CCC's dedication to serving student-veterans.


General Job Functions:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, other agencies, and the general public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
  • Participate in college committees when requested.
  • Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related college, state, and federal standards, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Required Qualifications

:


  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience serving military-connected people in a professional setting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties.

  • Knowledge of project management; supervisory practices; community resources; business English; computers and the Internet; protocols of the armed services; unique language of the military.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working with military-connected students

  • Having 4-years of military service with an honorable discharge

  • Knowledge of FERPA requirements

  • Masters' degree in Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field

Working Conditions

:

The position requires limited (0-20%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Occasional (21-50% of the time) use of office equipment.

The position requires minimal (5-20%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work are not difficult, and only require some degree of agility and hand eye coordination.

The work environment is protected with only some occasional hazards or obstacles (20-40%). There is a moderately low level of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are occasionally uncomfortable, with moderate (20-40%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have some responsibility for driving.

Supervisory Responsibilities

:

Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Responsible for lead duties and may provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.
