Student Advocacy and Engagement Coordinator

Description: The Student Advocacy and Engagement Coordinator provides dynamic leadership, support and facilitation of Carroll University's INSPIRE Program. INSPIRE supports college access and retention for students in partner organizations who serve primarily first-generation and low-income students. Students accepted into the program receive a university scholarship, academic support, and sociocultural programming designed to promote retention and graduation.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates all components and planned activities of the INSPIRE Program, including the development and evaluation of short and long-term programs and services designed to increase the retention, matriculation, and ultimately the graduation of INSPIRE Scholars
Provide high touch support and serve as the student's main contact and resource with a focus on advising, mentoring and connecting students to resources that will assist with their academic, social and personal well-being
Assesses and collaborates on the development of an Individual Learning Plan with INSPIRE Scholars and regularly monitors progress towards goal completion
Maintains a continuous focus on the student experience and student success from initial enrollment through graduation.
Works with assigned students, helping them overcome obstacles to learning and understanding program expectations
Proactively collaborate with university-wide departments, faculty, tutors, and academic support staff to advocate, identify, and meet the academic needs of INSPIRE Scholars
Facilitates workshops in multi-modalities on a range of topics related to academic success skills, financial literacy, career development, and goal setting
Coordinates and facilitate signature INSPIRE Program initiatives, including, but not limited to Summer Orientation, Pioneer Bridge, First Year Pio Mentoring Program and Mid-Semester Resource Fair
Instructs Summer Bridge 1 credit courses: FYS 120 Strategies for Academic Success and FYS 121 Strategies for Successful Career Development
Provides outreach, information sessions and transition support for partner schools and organizations
Manages operational budget, including University allocation and direct Alumni donations
As designated, supervise professional, administrative and student staff
Student Affairs Divisional Responsibilities:
Serve on departmental, divisional and university committees
Attend and actively participate in departmental and divisional staff meetings and retreats
Maintain a high degree of visibility and availability to students, faculty and staff
Collaborate with members of the Carroll community (faculty, staff, and students) to promote diversity, inclusion and create cultural co-curricular opportunities for students
Identify and participate in regional and national professional development opportunities
Represent DEI, the Office of Student Affairs and/or Carroll University at on-campus and off-campus DEI related events
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree required
3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in diversity, social justice or student affairs related field
Technology Skills:
Database management
Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Human Relations Skills:
Knowledge and experience serving and supporting diverse, underrepresented student demographics
Experience working with college students in a university setting
Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a social justice-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
Skill to pay close attention to detail and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions
Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects
Excellent communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations
Ability to take initiative, problem solve and work independently with good judgment about when to seek direction
Ability to work as a contributing member in a team-oriented environment with an understanding of the larger unit and University contexts. This includes being part of an office team as well as collaborating with colleagues and non-University partners
Ability to consistently work some evenings and weekends for programming outside of regular business hours
Additional Qualifications:
Must have valid motor vehicle license and be insurable under the University's insurance plan.
