Job Summary
The Stamps School of Art & Design invites applications for a Lecturer I position for the Fall 2019 semester (September 1 - December 31, 2019) to teach the following 3-credit studio course:

ARTDES 176 - Graphic Design for Non-Majors

Graphic design brings words and images together to communicate ideas, experiences, and information. This class introduces students to basic graphic design skills through lectures, demonstrations, team exercises, and a series of individually assigned projects. Students work with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat, and they experience the design process from conception to final execution. This class is intended for students who are curious about graphic design; no prior art experience is necessary.

Days/Times

Sec. 001 - Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:30pm-7:45pm

Classes begin Tuesday September 3, 2019.

Required Qualifications*

Master's degree in art, design, or comparable field.
Minimum 1 year college-level teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to teach and oversee students in understanding the relationship of text and image, type as a visual form, the use of basic two-dimensional principles in support of effective communication, and the use of analog and digital tools in image making.
Record of active creative work, scholarship, research and/or industry or other relevant professional engagement.
Ability to assess student work in a timely and effective manner.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
