Job Summary
The Stamps School of Art & Design invites applications for a Lecturer I position for the Fall 2019 semester (September 1 - December 31, 2019) to teach two sections of the following 3-credit studio course:

ARTDES 225 - Entanglement

This course offers an introduction to fibers. In addition to weaving, students will learn to silk screen yardage and other fibers techniques, completing finished work in each area taught.

Days/Times

Sec. 001 - Mondays & Wednesdays, 8:30am-10:45am

Sec. 002 - Mondays & Wednesdays, 2:00pm-4:15pm

Classes begin Tuesday September 3, 2019.

Required Qualifications*
  • Master's degree with a concentration in textile arts.
  • Minimum 1 year college-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and oversee students in establishing a visual vocabulary in textiles through exploration of pattern, color, material, and texture and working across a range of fiber arts techniques, including weaving, sewing, dyeing, surface design, yarn handling, screen printing, batik, and off-loom construction methods.
  • Primary creative practice in textiles/fiber arts with a record of active creative work, scholarship, research and/or industry or other relevant professional engagement.
  • Experience with a range of fiber arts techniques.
  • Ability to assess student work in a timely and effective manner.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
