The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Film/TV Screenwriting, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
  • Assume the primary teaching role and faculty leadership in development of the screenwriting program within the Film/Television Department.
  • Teach introductory, intermediate and advanced sections of writing courses for film, television and digital media.
  • Revise and develop the screenwriting degree, certificates, and curriculum including specialized areas such as script analysis, the business of screenwriting, and writing for television, web series, games, and emerging media.
  • Ability to teach additional courses in film/television preproduction, production, or postproduction, or media studies.
  • Demonstrate and maintain professional screenwriting activity.
  • Maintain the script library.
  • Organize the annual student screenwriting competition.
  • Oversee the screenwriting lab.
  • Assist students in achieving transfer and vocational goals.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in radio, television, film, mass communication or communication, journalism OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/theater arts, communication, speech communication, business, telecommunications or English OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Advanced degree in film or television with screenwriting emphasis.
  2. Professional experience in screenwriting.
  3. Expertise in film/television preproduction, production, or postproduction, or media studies.
  4. Experience teaching film/television courses at the community college, college or university level.
  5. Experience in developing film/television curriculum.
  6. Experience in coordinating screenwriting conferences, workshops and/or presentations by visiting media artists.

In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate:
  1. The ability to organize and communicate course content for a range of entry-level to post-graduate students.
  2. The ability to design and apply varied teaching strategies to successfully engage, inspire and retain screenwriting students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  3. The ability to work in a collegial manner with other faculty and staff.
  4. Vision regarding the mission and educational philosophy of the community college and its pursuit of innovation and excellence.

HIRING RANGE: $60,490.00 - $99,345.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 10-months per year
