Fitness Coordinator

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of the Recreational Sports Department, the Fitness Coordinator oversees all Personal Training, Group Exercise, Massage, and Self Defense programs generating approximately $250,000 annual revenue for the department. This position directly oversees fitness equipment acquisition, assessment, maintenance and repair of $1.5 million in workout equipment. The Fitness Coordinator supervises approximately 70 student and non-student staff including Personal Trainers, Massage Therapists, Group Exercise Instructors, Cardiovascular and Weight Room Floor Attendants, Fitness Desk attendants, and In-house Maintenance and Repair positions. Extensive knowledge of emergency procedures, risk management solutions, and safety policies related to fitness, wellness and exercise in general is essential. This is a highly collaborative position that encompasses interaction with University students, faculty, staff, alumni, as well as a heavy emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with campus partners and neighborhood constituencies.

As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Fitness Coordinator for the RSD collaborates and cooperates to create leadership and intercultural competence opportunities to support student learning and development in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. The mission of Student Life is to fully support holistic student development within a social justice framework centered in preparing students to be caring, socially responsible citizens in our global and local community.

Job Responsibilities:

Personnel:
o Recruit, hire, supervise, schedule, evaluate and perform payroll for student and non-student positions including Fitness Desk, Personal Trainers, Massage Therapists, Group Exercise Instructors, Cardiovascular and Weight Room Floor Attendants, and In-house Preventative Maintenance and Repair Staff
o Provide qualified, certified and experienced instructors to safely and effectively meet the needs of personal training clients and group exercise participants
o Ensure that all fitness programs and staff maintain exceptionally high safety standards, with all certified personnel maintaining current certifications from nationally accredited certifying bodies.
o Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback to staff. Evaluate staff per RSD evaluation policy procedures and time frame.
o Perform risk management audits and ongoing emergency response training in order to ensure that all fitness staff are prepared to respond appropriately in crisis situations.
o Oversee interns from the Kinesiology program

Programming/Budget:
o Coordinate Personal Training programming to accommodate client needs and reach revenue targets
o Coordinate Massage Therapy programming to meet the needs of on-campus contingencies and accommodate client needs
o Design and coordinate a well-rounded weekly group exercise schedule comprised of approximately 60 fitness classes
o Plan, oversee, supervise, audit, and evaluate all fitness programs including daily, weekly, monthly offerings and seasonal auxiliary events
o Ensure that the RSD fitness programs are managed to the highest quality standards, while maintaining strong participation numbers, and exceptional customer satisfaction.
o Develop internship opportunities in conjunction with colleagues in the Kinesiology Department at USF
o Set policy and operating standards for all fitness programs including safety, customer service, staff accountability, programming, member services, etc.
o Develop, manage and oversee the fitness operating budget. Meet and exceed revenue and performance goals. Report as required on performance and variances.
o In conjunction with the marketing department, coordinate and execute an ongoing program marketing strategy.

Facilities/Risk Management:
o Maintain facilities, equipment, staff and educational programming to accommodate safe usage in workout areas including the Weight Rooms, Cardiovascular Areas, Combatives Room, Aerobics Room and Boxing Room.
o Coordinate fitness equipment acquisition, assessment, maintenance and repair of approximately 300 workout stations. Identify qualified outside vendors for more complicated repairs.
o Monitor, assess and evaluate all fitness equipment with supporting documentation, and ensure that all equipment is well maintained allowing for a safe user experience
o Manage and determine the group fitness needs including appropriate room scheduling, procurement of props/supplies, and preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement of program equipment.

Other Responsibilities :
o Manage and oversee all fitness operations and systems including administrative staff, registration, payroll, record maintenance and staff/participant communication.
o Serve on committees as assigned by the Director
o Participate in department/division activities including meetings and staff development.
o Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director.
o Evening and weekend hours required.
o Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Recreational Sports regarding program/facility/staff needs, challenges and successes.
o Model behavior based on RSD working principles and customer service standards.
o Complete all RSD paperwork requirements in a timely manner, including room requisitions, payroll materials, departmental goals and work plans, budget preparation, tracking materials, catalog copy, employment paperwork, and others as needed.
o Be committed to the mission and goals of USF. Participate in and promote USF events and programs outside of RSD.

Minimum Requirements:

? Masters Degree Required, in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, or Sport Management. Bachelors degree in a related field required.
? Minimum of 3 to 5 years of management experience in recreational sports or related field. Experience working effectively with diverse college student populations in an urban, multicultural environment.
? Solid analytical skills and knowledge of current assessment and evaluation practices. Strong interpersonal skills to provide direction in promoting and maintaining collaborative relationships with campus and community constituencies.
? Documented current certification/s in programs related to the fitness/wellness industry or must be complete within one (1) year of employment. Proven experience in the management and maintenance of facilities related to fitness and wellness programs. Proven marketing and promotional skills.
? CPR/AED Certification.
? Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and related programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Specific operational knowledge and experience working with various software systems including Customer Relationship Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Human Capital Management and Web Content Management systems. Working knowledge of Active Net, Time IPS, Concur, Banner, Workday, When to Work, EMS and Drupal are a plus.
