Job Description
The Assistant Director for Writing Support in the Educational Resource Center runs the university-wide writing assistance program that serves Boston University Academy students, Boston University undergraduate students, and Boston University graduate students. In addition, the Assistant Director provides individual writing assistance to BUA, undergraduate, and graduate students and contributes to ERC programming and outreach.

  • Hire, train, and evaluate 8 10 graduate-student writing assistants and provide them with ongoing support and professional development throughout the year
  • Create and maintain semesterly writing assistance schedule that offers 90+ hours of writing assistance per week
  • Oversee appointment scheduling and train and support writing assistants on the use of Trac Cloud scheduling software
  • Develop online writing resources for BU's online educational resource library
  • Contribute to the Educational Resource Centers programming and outreach
  • May offer a Hub cocurricular on academic success
  • Offer individual writing assistance appointments to BU undergraduate and Master's degree students


Required Skills
  • M.F.A. in Creative Writing or Ph.D. in Rhetoric or other relevant discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide writing assistance to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students, including students who have English as a second language.
  • Ability to develop training programs for writing assistants on both the pedagogy of writing instruction and on providing effective peer tutoring to a diverse population of students.
  • Capacity to build positive and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
