Basic Function:
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has one faculty position available in Advanced Manufacturing at the assistant professor level. The research areas of interest include: advanced materials processing, additive manufacturing, digital manufacturing, and sensor development. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical, manufacturing, and/or materials engineering. Candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, materials science & engineering or a relevant discipline.

The Mechanical Engineering Department at WPI (http://www.wpi.edu/academics/me/ ) has 35 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering to 1,000 students. The department offers graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science and engineering, and manufacturing engineering to 300 graduate students. The department's externally sponsored research expenditures averaged over the past five years has exceeded $10M a year.
