Position Summary
Sponsored Projects Services (SPS) within the Research, Innovation, and Economic Development division at the State University of New York at Buffalo is seeking a Post-Award Compliance Specialist (PACS). The PACS supports the accurate and compliant financial management of sponsored research awards.

The PACS reviews financial and personnel transactions, ensuring expenses are allowable under sponsor requirements, award terms and conditions, and university policies. This position works closely with research administration colleagues, serving as a resource and providing guidance to award managers and transaction processors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Review and approve sponsored project-related personnel and financial transactions for accuracy, allowability, and allocability under award terms, sponsor guidelines, and university policies.
  • Provide guidance and serve as a resource to award managers and transaction processors on allowable research charges, helping them to be proactive with the PIs' needs and minimize issues.
  • Maintain accurate transaction records and necessary documentation for audit purposes.
  • Collaborate with award managers and stakeholders to ensure all financial obligations are met prior to award closeout.
  • Stay informed of changes in sponsor guidelines and university policies, communicating relevant updates to award managers and stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline transaction review and approval processes, enhancing efficiency and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, public administration, plus 2 years' technical or administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience interpreting and applying sponsor guidelines, award terms and conditions, and/or institutional policies


Physical Demands


Salary Range
$63,000 - $66,000
