JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor of Soil Microbial Ecology

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming (UW) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor in Soil Science on a nine-month appointment. The tenure-track hire will be housed in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management (ESM) within the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources. We seek a colleague with expertise in soil microbial ecology to conduct research, teach and perform university and professional service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position responsibilities will be split between research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program on soil microbial ecology, publish peer-reviewed articles, mentor graduate students and perform appropriate service activities for the University and within the faculty's discipline. Potential teaching duties include a course in microbial diversity and ecology as well as other upper-level courses in the candidate's field of study.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. at the time of hire directly related to Soil Microbial Ecology

Experience Evaluation

Minimum experience requirements are evaluated on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis. Relevant part-time experience will be prorated based on hours worked. For example, two years working an average of 20 hours per week is equivalent to approximately one year of full-time experience.

Applicants must include the average hours worked per week for all current and previous positions. Failure to provide this information may affect the evaluation of qualifications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of research productivity
  • Experience using state of the art research approaches in microbial ecology
  • Research experience with microbial ecology in natural ecosystems, such as forests, grasslands, shrublands, and/or wetlands.
  • Success with obtaining grant funding
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research
  • Postdoctoral/faculty research experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
