About the Opportunity
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life within the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life builds the infrastructure needed to support a healthy, safe, and meaningful fraternity and sorority experience on Northeastern University's Boston campus. The position is one of three full-time staff members supporting more than 40 social Greek-letter organizations and over 3,750 affiliated students, representing approximately 16% of the undergraduate student population. The Assistant Director supports students and chapters within four governing councils: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and Panhellenic Council.
The Assistant Director provides leadership for student safety, well-being, harm prevention, and leadership development initiatives within the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) community. The role oversees off-campus event notifications, reviews new member education and membership intake processes, develops educational programming, manages the FSL communications and marketing strategy, and leads CSI's student organization accountability committee in collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR). At the divisional and institutional levels, the Assistant Director coordinates hazing-prevention efforts, including policy development, investigative protocols, and tailored education for members of the Northeastern community.
The Assistant Director supervises, trains, and evaluates the FSL Specialist, who is responsible for chapter services, volunteer engagement, recognition requirements, and signature community-building events such as Take It to the Floor, Greek Sing, the MGC BBQ, New England Stepfest, FSL Apex Awards, and Greek Week. As a member of the collaborative CSI team, the Assistant Director also supports department-wide programs and events, including Fall Fest, Homecoming, Winter Fest, and the Student Life Awards.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
FSL Community Advisement
- Review chapter new member education and membership intake plans, providing guidance to support safe and healthy membership experiences
- Advise governing councils and individual chapters on short- and long-term goals that advance organizational wellness, success, and sustainability
- Provide event-planning and risk-management guidance by reviewing logistics for on- and off-campus events, including events with or without alcohol, overnight events, and events outside Boston
- Guide chapters in complying with university policies and the requirements of their membership organizations
- Serve as a liaison to membership organizations and their support networks, including headquarters staff and local, state, and regional volunteers and chapter advisors
FSL Team Management
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the Fraternity and Sorority Life Specialist
- Supervise, train, and evaluate practicum students, graduate interns, and designated CSI student employees, as applicable
FSL Educational and Wellness Strategy
- Evaluate, revise, and deliver educational programs and experiences for affiliated students, including FSL Discovery for new members, RISE for emerging leaders, Scout event monitor training, Equip for chapter officers, the Basecamp council officer transition workshop, and the Summit off-campus overnight leadership retreat
- Partner with the Office of Prevention and Education at Northeastern (OPEN) to lead FSL organizational wellness and prevention initiatives, including the chapter goal-setting process
- Collaborate with campus partners to identify and deliver educational content and resources tailored to the needs of fraternities and sororities
Organizational Accountability Strategy and Support
- Lead CSI's student organization accountability committee and administer the warning and letter-only process to reinforce compliance with university policies, protocols, and expectations across more than 500 student organizations
- Lead the institution's approach to hazing prevention, including policy revisions, investigative interview logistics for organizational cases, and tailored education for members of the Northeastern community
- Address off-campus behavior associated with fraternities and sororities in collaboration with key stakeholders
- Collaborate with OSCCR and membership organization staff and volunteers to provide guidance on timely and relevant sanctions and outcomes related to organizational misconduct
Communications, Programs, and Department Support
- Manage the end-to-end production of the biweekly FSL newsletter and oversee the FSL social media and website presence, ensuring digital content aligns with the FSL marketing strategy
- Support programs, events, initiatives, services, and committees originating within CSI
- Represent CSI on divisional committees and projects and at major campus events and programs
- Perform other duties as assigned that support team success
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree
- One to three years of full-time experience in fraternity and sorority life advising, health promotion or wellness, public health or prevention, student conduct, student activities, major event management, or a related area
- Awareness of trends and issues affecting fraternities and sororities at the inter/national level
- Ability to identify and apply industry-wide best practices in fraternity and sorority advising to strengthen the FSL community
- Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, global university environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to align work with the established mission, vision, and literacies of the Division of Student Life
Preferred
- Master's degree
- Direct experience advising fraternal organizations

Expected Hiring Range:
$53,615.00 - $75,728.75
With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
