Position Overview:

This position serves as the primary operational leader for daily clinic activities and is responsible for coordinating patient care delivery, staff workflow, and clinic operations within the Campus Health Center.
Salary and Benefits:

$85,500 to $102,800, commensurate with experience

Primary Duties:
  • Lead and coordinate daily clinical operations to support safe, timely, efficient, and student-centered care.
  • Coordinate patient flow, clinical staffing, room assignments, and daily workflows in collaboration with nurse practitioners, medical assistants, office staff, and the medical director.
  • Supervise assigned clinical support staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, work delegation, performance evaluation, coaching, competency assessment, and professional development.
  • Provide nursing assessment, triage, patient education, medication administration, care coordination, and other direct nursing services as needed and within the registered nurse's scope of practice.
  • Address operational and patient-care concerns in real time and facilitate appropriate escalation to the director, medical director, or another level of care.
  • Collaborate with the medical director and healthcare providers to implement and maintain clinical policies, standing orders, protocols, and evidence-based practices. This position does not independently supervise the clinical practice of advanced practice providers.
  • Oversee systems for diagnostic testing, laboratory results, referrals, medication follow-up, and other clinical activities requiring timely review and completion.
  • Lead infection-prevention activities, including staff education, exposure-response procedures, communicable-disease precautions, and compliance with applicable clinical safety standards.
  • Coordinate vaccine and medication management, including storage, temperature monitoring, inventory control, administration processes, documentation, and response to storage or handling concerns.
  • Maintain clinical emergency readiness, including emergency equipment, medications, staff BLS and emergency-response competencies, and participation in university emergency-preparedness activities.
  • Coordinate clinical staff orientation, ongoing training, competency validation, and maintenance of required licenses and certifications.
  • Lead and participate in quality-improvement activities, including incident review, chart audits, patient feedback, workflow evaluation, outcome monitoring, and development of corrective actions.
  • Support compliance with applicable healthcare, privacy, safety, laboratory, and accreditation requirements and assist with regulatory and accreditation readiness.
  • Collaborate with the director, medical director, campus partners, and local public-health authorities regarding communicable-disease surveillance, prevention, and response.
  • Monitor clinical supplies, equipment, medications, and related expenditures; review invoices; coordinate purchasing; and provide input regarding budget and resource needs.
  • Monitor clinical access, utilization, patient experience, workflow, and quality indicators and use findings to recommend operational improvements.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative clinical environment that supports student well-being, health equity, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Participate in departmental and university planning and represent clinical operations on assigned committees or workgroups.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted license as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Three (3) years of relevant professional nursing experience in an ambulatory, primary care, urgent care, community health, public health, or comparable clinical setting.
  • At least one (1) year of experience providing clinical leadership, staff supervision, team coordination, or comparable leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing assessment, clinical triage, medication administration, patient education, and appropriate escalation of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, delegate responsibilities within applicable scopes of practice, assess competencies, provide feedback, and address performance concerns.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, immunization practices, medication management, clinical safety, and emergency-response procedures.
  • Experience implementing clinical policies, standing orders, protocols, workflows, or evidence-based practices.
  • Experience participating in quality improvement, incident review, chart auditing, performance measurement, or related patient-safety activities.
  • Knowledge of applicable healthcare privacy, documentation, workplace safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and the ability to use clinical and operational data to monitor performance and improve services.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including the ability to establish priorities and respond effectively in a dynamic clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, staff, students, university partners, public-health agencies, and community providers.
  • Experience providing culturally responsive care and working effectively with diverse populations, including individuals who have experienced barriers to healthcare access.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound professional judgment, and work independently within established authority and scope of practice.

Working Conditions:

Clinical office environment. Some travel may be required.
