About the Department and/or College
The College of Arts & Sciences is composed of 15 departments offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Extract DNA using standard protocols from plant specimens and environmental sources
  • Prepare and process biological samples for next-generation sequencing applications, including library preparation for high-throughput DNA sequencing using targeted sequence capture
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot low-volume liquid handling robots, DNA quantification instruments, Illumina sequencing platforms, and associated laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and data quality.
  • Develop, optimize, validate, and implement experimental protocols, assays, and standard operating procedures (SOPs); maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare technical reports.
  • Analyze and interpret sequencing data; communicate project status, results, and observations to core facility management, investigators, collaborators, and customers.
  • Assist with research studies and experiments, modify protocols as needed, and provide technical expertise to investigators utilizing core facility services.
  • Assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, grant applications, presentations, and reports; present findings at internal and external meetings and remain current with advances in high-throughput sequencing and related technologies.
  • Train and mentor laboratory personnel, students, and collaborators in sample preparation, library construction, instrument operation, data analysis, and laboratory best practices.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years experience; or a combination of education and/or related experience to equal six years.

Preferred Qualifications
Experiences with molecular genetics laboratory procedures, including, but not limited to: pipetting, PCR, gel electrophoresis, high throughput genomics sequencing, liquid handling robots. Experience training staff and students. Experience with data entry and customer relations.

Pay Range
$21.39 - $27.84 - $34.23
