Position Description
Performs complex Academic Advising, educational, professional, or other advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Responsibilities may include analyzing special and/or complex problems. May coordinate and manage Academic Advising initiatives. May supervise Senior and other Academic Advisors. Performance is based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained. Work is performed under minimal supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Computer Science spans the range from theory to practice to cutting-edge inventions. The need for computing professionals and executives has substantially grown over years. Almost every major challenge facing our world is turning to computing for a solution, from conquering disease to eliminating hunger, from improving education to protecting the environment. Exciting possibilities exist for students with degrees in computer science and software and security engineering. Students work with distinguished faculty in applying their math and science skills, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and working on research projects funded by federal, state, and industrial organizations. By learning advanced problem-solving methods, Texas Tech computer science students are prepared to solve the world's challenges in this dynamic and rapidly expanding field.

Major/Essential Functions

Maintain current files on enrollment data.
Assure enrollment data is up-to-date and accurate.
Prepare reports and trends.
Counsel with students concerning course requirements, declaration of majors and minors, transfers, grade points requirements, course substitutions, and probation and/or suspension.
Assure that all students are aware of academic requirements and problems.
Coordinate student pre-registration.
Assure that departmental students go through correct procedures during pre-registration.
Observe work and safety rules.
Always abide by work and safety rules in day-to-day operations.
Assist the scholarship committee with undergraduate scholarships.
Inform students and committee of scholarships.
Provide support to the scholarship committee.
Maintain files and advise students of their progress toward a degree plan or the completion of a degree plan.
Assure all students in major and minor are aware of their progress towards their degree requirements.
Assure all students know what is necessary to complete their degree requirements.
Assist in scheduling courses.
Develop class schedules to ensure appropriate departmental courses are offered without conflicting with other courses, outside the department, that are required for students' orderly progression toward their degree.
Preparation and maintenance of student orientation materials, workshops and seminars for the department.
Assure that orientation material is up-to-date and available.
Conduct orientation programs.
Represent department in orientation and advisor meetings on campus.
Assure department is well represented in university orientation and advisor meetings.
Support student organizations and services.
Assist and promote student organizations with activities, policies and procedures, etc.
Compare degree requirements and content of courses offered with those of other colleges and universities.
Maintains current list of transfer course equivalents from other primary colleges and universities in cooperation with the Dean's office and departmental Chair.
Coordinate student recruitment program for the department.
Work with the chair, university and college personnel to develop and maintain a strong recruitment program.
Perform duties of mass add/drops and instructor verifications for the department.
Assist faculty and students with mass add/drops and instructor verifications for the department
Assist the department with ABET activities, including data collection.
Carry out other tasks as needed for the benefit of the department and the university.
Administer regulations regarding academic program requirements set forth by the department and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.
Monitor departmental curriculum requirements and assure students in majors are aware of regulations.
Work as a team with all departmental staff. This includes cross training on things like travel, POs, answering phones, and anything else needed for the department to function on a day-to-day basis.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, plus two years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Banner, Raiderlink, Cognos Reports, Xtender and Adobe
Positive individual willing to collaborate with faculty and staff.

Pay Range
$19.47 - $25.29 - $31.15
