Lab Technician

Job Summary

Laboratory Technicians
Performs technical procedures in the HCI Biorepository research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. Responsible for maintaining work areas and equipment. Will assist with receipt and processing of biological materials, and database management for inventory and search of biospecimens. Will assist in collecting biospecimens from remote clinics, with any personal transport costs reimbursed.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  1. Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research processes.
  2. Receiving and processing patient biospecimens, labelling samples, and appropriate database entry and storage of samples.
  3. Work schedule that will allow for after-hours (after 5pm) collection of samples at HCI.
  4. Assist in collecting samples from remote clinics and transporting back to HCI. Any personal costs will be reimbursed.
  5. Assists in maintaining the physical environment of the lab.
  6. Will assist in uploading patient information into database.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Laboratory Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.


Preferences
  • Bachelor's degree in scientific discipline or equivalency; knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in human relations and effective communication skills.
  • OSHA, HIPAA, and Biosafety training will be required after hiring.
