Position Summary
This position is available in the lab of Dr. Yolanda Huang (Department of Microbiology & Immunology). Our overarching research goal is to advance our understanding of the gut microbiota at the molecular level. We study microbial functions important for bacteria to colonize and survive in the gut habitat. Potential projects include studying antimicrobial stress tolerance, carbon metabolic pathways and genetic determinants underlying bacteria-phage interactions in Bacteroidales.

In particular, we have high-resolution LC-MS capabilities (Revident qTOF) that allows us to study the biology of Bacteroidales at the molecular level. We are a new lab looking to grow with funding from foundation and NIH. Research projects leverage cutting-edge techniques, including DNA barcoding, sequencing techniques, and high-throughput functional genomics. Responsibilities will include leading research projects, developing new protocols, mentoring others in the lab, presenting research outcomes, and publishing.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field, and have demonstrated research productivity. The lab is committed to the success of all members and provides mentorship and opportunities for research and career development. Expertise in any of the following areas is an asset: microbiology of anaerobes and phages, assay development, functional genomics, generation and analysis of sequencing data, -omics techniques, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry (HPLC, LC-MS).

Responsibilities will include:
? Conducting experiments independently, establishing new protocols
? Timely recording of accurate experimental details and results
? Performing data interpretations and communicating findings to the PI
? Participating and contributing to group meetings
? Writing manuscripts related to the project; assisting in preparation of research proposals
