About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Co-op Counselor supports the Office of the Chancellor and the Cooperative Education programs for the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) and Bouve College of Health Sciences by providing one-on-one and group advising for students seeking co-ops and other career development programs, in support of Co-op Faculty. Collaborating closely with the CSSH and Bouve Co-op Teams, this position supports students seeking co-op opportunities, provides programming and operations support for seasonal events, and administers the Career Peer Advisor program. In this role, the Co-op Counselor guides students through the co-op process, including job search preparation, application support, self-developed co-op opportunities, co-op advising support, and ongoing engagement while on co-op. Communications and outreach, employer and student events coordination, maintenance of student-facing and internal resources, and contributions to data tracking and reporting are all within scope. Committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, employers, and colleagues, this position is a key support resource for the co-op team, including stepping in for Co-op Faculty when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional work experience; experience in higher education, career services, human resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience advising, coaching, teaching, or facilitating in one-on-one or group settings.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and professional communication skills, with attention to detail and demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and Google Suite.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across multiple departments and colleges.
  • Comfort presenting to diverse audiences and demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with cooperative education and/or experiential learning.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Simplicity, or similar CRM/advising platforms.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Canvas, or similar content management or educational instruction tools.
  • Experience developing or facilitating career development workshops and resources.
  • Experience with data reporting, including basic report interpretation and communicating key findings.
  • Knowledge of CPT, visa support processes, or international student employment authorization.
  • Budget management or financial reconciliation experience; familiarity with Concur or similar expense management platforms a plus.
  • Familiarity with administering peer mentoring or peer advising programs, work-study programs, or supervising students.
  • Familiarity with supporting global education programs or working with international student populations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Student Advising & Co-op Preparation
  • Serve as a resource for CSSH and Bouve students seeking co-op experiences, supporting them through job search strategy and application preparation, including additional support for repeat searchers and students with early deadlines; provide first-line program coverage in the absence of Co-op Faculty.
  • Conduct resume reviews and mock interviews for students requiring additional support; update co-op advisors with status and comments.
  • Facilitate ongoing outreach and check-ins with students during their co-op experience; escalate concerns to Co-op Faculty for follow-up and direct student engagement as appropriate.
  • Coach students pursuing self-developed co-ops outside of Northeastern's database, guiding them through available platforms and supporting them through the vetting, approval, and registration process.
  • Support students pursuing global co-op opportunities across Bouve and CSSH, including preparation advising, pre-departure meetings, and coordination with the Office of Global Services on visa and employment authorization; maintain ongoing engagement with students throughout the global co-op experience.
  • Administer the Career Peer Advisor program, including coordination of hiring, training, scheduling, and ongoing support

Employer & Student Programming
  • Coordinate logistics for employer engagement activities, serving as a point of contact for scheduling, materials, and follow-through.
  • Support employer recognition initiatives as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Co-op Coordinators to create, facilitate, and support workshops, events, and seasonal programming.
  • Cover for Co-op Coordinators who are out of the office, responding to students, employers, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with co-op class preparation and management of Canvas courses as needed.

Program Operations & Communications
  • Manage co-op program communications to CSSH and Bouve students and employers, including announcements for recruitment deadlines, interview schedules, and events.
  • Maintain and update SharePoint resources, student-facing resources, internal team documentation, and the co-op resource library.
  • Support data tracking and reporting functions, including monitoring application activity and surfacing relevant findings to Co-op Coordinators.
  • Support operational functions including course enrollment monitoring, CourseLeaf planning support, and work-study or student worker coordination as assigned.
  • Purchasing and budget management support may be provided on an as-assigned basis in coordination with Co-op leadership.

General & University-Wide Support
  • Support college and university initiatives as assigned; contribute to committee work and assist with special projects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts for program workflows, processes, and student experience.
  • Support additional college-specific functions or cross-college initiatives as directed by the university-wide co-op program.
  • The Co-op Counselor may shift their college assignment based on the business needs of the university-wide co-op program.

Expected Hiring Range:
$53,615.00 - $75,728.75
