The laboratory conducts systems research that addresses technical, economic, and policy issues related to energy and environmental systems. Current interests of research mainly include carbon capture and storage, clean hydrogen, low-carbon energy systems, and the energy-water nexus under carbon constraints for climate change mitigation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The laboratory will hire a postdoctoral research associate to work on a collaborative project with the UW School of Energy Resources' Hydrogen Energy Research Center. This project will develop a risk-based, multi-tier computing framework to design, optimize, and operate hydrogen infrastructure while explicitly accounting for hydrogen leakage and mitigation. The outcomes will support sustainable development of low-carbon hydrogen supply chains and associated infrastructure. The postdoctoral researcher will work under direction of Prof. Zhai and senior collaborators, present results at conferences, and publish work in peer-reviewed journals.
COMPETENCIES:
We strongly encourage applicants with expertise in process modeling, techno-economic analysis, stochastic optimization, and machine learning. Knowledge of hydrogen infrastructure and leakage mechanisms is a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
