Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor Tenure Track Position
The Department of Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training in the College of Health at the University of Utah is seeking 2 faculty candidates. The positions will be full-time faculty position on the Tenure Track (https://academic-affairs.utah.edu/faculty-handbook/faculty-appointments/). The rank of the hire will be commensurate with academic and scholarly experience. The primary responsibility of this position will be to contribute to and advance the Department's research portfolio through leadership and participation in funded research. The Department is interested in expanding existing areas of research strengths in health services research, implementation science, clinical trials of rehabilitation interventions, and digital health technologies including wearables and telehealth. Highly qualified applicants with expertise in other areas will also be considered.
The applicant should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills. Responsibilities will include participation in collaborative research with colleagues within the College of Health and throughout the University. The successful applicants will integrate their expertise by participating in the existing entry-level DPT or MAT programs, post-professional continuing education programs, or Rehabilitation Sciences PhD program. It is expected that the successful candidate will recruit and mentor doctoral and post-doctoral trainees. In addition to research, job responsibilities will include teaching, mentoring, and serving on related committees. Qualifications include: an academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, or equivalent; record of (or emerging potential for) generating grants and peer-reviewed publications.
The Department is home to four-degree offerings, including a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, of which rehabilitation health services is one of the areas of research emphasis. The Department focuses on rehabilitation research and has successful collaborations across the University to support this mission. Collaborative entities include the Department of Population Health Sciences, Center on Aging, Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, University Orthopedic Center, Department of Neurology, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Department of Health and Kinesiology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Utah Responsible Artificial Intelligence Initiative, and the University of Utah Digital Health Initiative, among others. The Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training is located within the College of Health and is part of the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. The Health Sciences Center is the major educational, research and referral facility serving the medical needs of Utah and the Intermountain West. The Center includes the Colleges of Health, Nursing and Pharmacy, School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, University Hospitals and Clinics, the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library and related core facilities. In addition to in-house facilities, the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training is in close proximity to associated research entities at the VA Medical Center, the Imaging and Neurosciences Center, the Intermountain Shriner's Hospital, the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and the Craig H. Nielsen Rehabilitation Hospital. The University of Utah is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as one of 151 "Doctoral/Research Universities-Extensive" from among 3,941 U.S. institutions and is consistently ranked among the top 25 public research universities in the nation.
The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, in the foothills of the majestic Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. There is easy access to eight world-class ski resorts, as well as hiking, biking, camping, backpacking, fishing, and exploring in nearby canyons and in the spectacular red-rock country of southern Utah. Ten National Parks are within a day driving distance of the University. Salt Lake City also offers professional symphony, ballet, modern dance, opera and theater performances, art galleries, world-class restaurants, and professional sports.
