Position DescriptionCandidates will have teaching and/or professional experience in one or more of the following specialties: transmedia sports writing and digital content production; serving as a member of a communications office (such as communications, sports information, creative services or marketing/fan engagement offices); broadcasting, or competition-related live-streaming, video and/or audio; print, broadcast or digital sports reporting; serving in a strategic communication; advertising agency settings with experience serving on teams for such clients as those pursuing name/image/likeness (NIL) opportunities or managing sport organization clientele; handling community relations efforts or those with experience serving on social media or creative media teams for sports or entertainment clients. Expertise in some aspect of digital media production is required along with some experience working within a sport, entertainment or media organization, or an agency where sport, entertainment or media organizations or their people are clientele. (Time spent working as an undergraduate or graduate student may count toward the experience requirement).Successful candidates will help the College of Media & Communication program-build to enhance an already rich environment in which to teach and mentor students with interest in sports media production and creative services for digital content. About the College
The College of Media & Communication (CoMC) at Texas Tech University serves undergraduate students with majors in five departments (Advertising & Brand Strategy, Communication Studies, Digital Media & Professional Communication, Journalism & Creative Media Industries, Public Relations & Strategic Communication Management), and more than 350 M.A. students in three programs, and more than 40 Ph.D. students. About the Department/School/Area
The Lecturer position will be housed in the MCOM Area unit that serves the College of Media & Communication disciplines noted above. The Lecturer will teach primarily MCOM courses, although there may be occasions where this position will teach within a major (such as Advertising & Brand Strategy, Journalism, Creative Media Industries, and Public Relations & Strategic Communication Management) as the need arises.
Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Lecturer title designates a full-time, non-tenure-acquiring role with primary duties in teaching organized classes and/or instructional labs. In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate level.
As a faculty member in the MCOM Area, Undergraduate programs you will be expected to:
- Teach eight courses per academic year (4/4).
- Contribute to the teaching mission of the department.
- Work collegially across CoMC disciplines.
- Mentor/advise students with interest in sports media.
- Provide service to the department, college, and university.
Although summer teaching is not guaranteed, it can be offered, and, when available, would warrant additional compensation.
Faculty Qualifications
- Candidates must have completed 18 graduate credit hours in one of the following areas, before August 10, 2026: Advertising, Journalism, Mass Communication, or PR/Strategic Communication.
- Candidates must have specific experience in teaching as Instructor of Record (IoR) and Teaching Assistant (e.g. lab instructor) in media and communication courses at the undergraduate or graduate.
- Candidates must have a portfolio of their own digital media production for sport organization clientele.
- Candidates must have participated in experiential learning opportunities, (e.g. advising or member of university or college organization, study abroad, etc.) either as an instructor or advisor to such groups or by participating in them during their academic experiences.
- Successful candidates must be eligible to work in the United States at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Completion of the Master's degree before August 10, 2026.
- Experience teaching in more than one of the communication disciplines within the College of Media & Communication undergraduate curriculum areas.
- At least one year of professional experience working in relevant, applied communication contexts producing media content either for a sport organization (e.g. an athletic department) or on behalf of sport or entertainment clientele (e.g. agency). Time spent working for a sport organization or agency, while a student may be considered, whether paid or volunteer.
- Participation in experiential learning opportunities as either an advisor or participant on behalf of a recognized sport organization (e.g. study abroad, pep squad, fan engagement, etc.).
- Experience working in the Canvas Learning Management (LMS) system and teaching in the online modality.
- Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite (or similarly professional, alternative tools) to produce digital content.
