PROGRAM SUMMARY
The Otter Cross Cultural Center (OC3) is an integral part of the California State University, Monterey Bay campus.
The Otter Student Union (OSU) provides facilities, programs, services, activities, and meaningful leadership &
employment opportunities that promote campus life. Funding support for OSU operations is generated from student fees. The Otter Student Union (OSU) is in the process of obtaining its 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation designation and will operate as a legally separate entity. Although a legally separate entity, the OSU will be a fully integrated part of the California State University, Monterey Bay campus. Pending full establishment of the OSU Auxiliary, employees will be hired temporarily as University Corporation employees, receiving the same benefits as current employees and governed by established University Corporation policies. The Otter Cross Cultural Center (OC3) is a program of the OSU.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Otter Cross-Cultural Center (OC3) provides programs and services that support the academic and social success of all CSUMB students through advice, leadership development, student organization support, outreach, and intercultural programming. The Center is dedicated to providing a friendly environment that promotes and encourages a greater appreciation, respect, and inclusion of social differences. Co-curricular programs are offered to encourage free expression and discussion related to the success of a culturally conscious university where cross-cultural competence is integral to student leadership, development, and success. Under the direct supervision of the Director for the OC3, the Otter Cross-Cultural Center Program Coordinator is responsible for providing guidance and direction to the OC3 student coordinators, and interns and related programs and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. The Coordinator for Programs also remains current on trends and best practices for retaining and graduating students from historically marginalized communities.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinate, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive cross-cultural and intersectional programming model designed to engage the student body on topics of inclusion, equity, and student success, in alignment with OC3 and Affinity Center priorities.
- Apply applicable CSU, CSUMB, OSU, and Student Life operating policies and procedures throughout the planning, implementation, and execution of programs and events.
- Assist with program evaluation and assessment by collecting quantitative and qualitative data, supporting outcomes reporting, and contributing to continuous program improvement across OC3 and Affinity Center initiatives.
- Support the development and delivery of trainings for university staff, faculty, and students including, but not limited to, LGBTQT+ Teach In, Ignite! Leadership Retreat, and OC3/Affinity Center student staff training.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement OC3, Affinity center, and university signature programs, including but not limited to Werk Witch Drag Show, Indigenous People's Month, All Black Gala, International Women's Day Summit, Asian Pacific Islander week, and affinity graduation celebrations.
- Utilize campus protocols to reserve meeting and event spaces, order catering, request marketing materials and promotion across campus, and other items to implement and promote programs.
- Recruit, hire, train, and provide guidance and supervision to OC3 student coordinators, OC3 Interns, and student leaders, supporting their leadership development and successful program implementation.
- Recruit and engage students in OC3 programs, events, and services, fostering meaningful participation and sustained involvement.
- Provide coaching and support to students in their social, leadership, academic, and identity development,
- promoting cultural awareness, allyship, and leadership skills. Facilitate structured dialogue and educational programming that promote respectful discourse, understanding, and community engagement.
- Provide individual or group support to students and refer them to appropriate campus resources, including academic support, , financial aid literacy, career and graduate school exploration, and professional development resources.
- Support the creation and maintenance of safe, welcoming, and affirming student gathering space in collaboration with OC3 and Affinity Center professional staff.
- Coordinates the daily operations, including student staffing schedules, student organization reservations, and maintaining an educational resources library.
- Assist with communication efforts, including supporting social media accounts, contributing to the weekly OC3 newsletter, and assisting with monthly reports. Prepare monthly program and event reports, including attendance data, budget summaries and quantitative and/or qualitative evaluation data.
- Participate in department meetings, trainings, collaborations, retreats, and planning sessions; support cross-unit collaboration with Affinity Centers and represent OC3 on university committees as assigned.
- Assists the Associate Director, in coordination with the Director, with the hiring, training, and supervision of student staff and OC3 Interns.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Attends seminars and conferences to maintain program and professional development.
- Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service.
- Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of the histories, cultural and developmental, and issues of historically underrepresented student populations.
- Thorough knowledge of the theories and practice of social justice, cultural/ capital wealth models, intersectionality, multicultural student development and student leadership development.
- Knowledge and experience with multicultural and student development methodologies used to enhance student academic and personal development (ex: collaborative and student-centered teaching/learning models, small group facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy).
- Knowledge of successful practices in retaining and graduating students from historically marginalized identities.
- Knowledge of current trends in higher education.
- Delivering training to students, paraprofessionals, and advisors.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures related to student activities programming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and professional experience in areas related to college student development AND two years of professional experience in areas related to social justice. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: Possession of this knowledge and ability is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence.
- Master's degree from an accredited college/university in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Social Justice or other fields related to the delivery of services to a university student population.

The hiring range for this position is $29 - $31 per hour. Classification: Grade 3, Staff. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
