The Merced College Child Development Center staff are committed to providing children with the best experience possible. An important part of that experience is the nutritious meals and snacks we provide each day.

Our Food Service Technician I prepares and serves nutritious meals and snacks daily for children ages 0-5. This role includes preparing meals and bottles for infants in accordance with licensing regulations and program guidelines. The Food Service Technician I is responsible for maintaining accurate food inventory, monitoring supply levels, and ensuring proper storage and rotation of food items.

Additionally, this position upholds high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and food preparation areas, supporting a safe and healthy environment for infants and young children. Through careful attention to detail and adherence to health and safety protocols, the Food Service Technician I plays a vital role in promoting the well-being of every child in our care.

Salary Schedule:
Range 13
40 hours/week
8.5 months/year
This is a categorically funded assignment contingent upon year-to-year funding
This position works 8.5 months of the year and is paid over 10 months

General Description:
Under the supervision of the director, prepares meals and maintains food inventory for infants; maintains the health and safety needs of the children; and maintains an optimal healthy environment in the Infant Center.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans assigned areas, including sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors, cleaning tables, chairs and highchairs, children's bathrooms
  • Disinfects children's play surfaces, toys, cribs and nap mats
  • Dusts
  • Launders
  • Sterilizes bottles, wash dishes
  • Delivers food and sets up tables for meals
  • Prepares infant food and formula according to CCFP guidelines
  • Maintains basic records of infant and toddler meals
  • Maintains food inventory for infants
  • Empties waste receptacles and diaper pails
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service training
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Cleaning methods and supplies

Ability to:
  • Work well with others
  • Speak, read and write clearly
  • Lift up to 45 pounds
  • Stand on feet for long periods of time

Typical Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma OR GED OR the equivalent education and experience AND
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Environment:
Work is performed in an indoor work environment with regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors; there may be travel to different sites and incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends
