About the Role

The Assistant Director for Loans will help Boston University achieve University goals for recruitment, retention, and superior service by assisting students in financing their education. This position will work as part of a team and manage various aspects of the financial aid and loans process for undergraduate and graduate student populations. The Assistant Director will provide support and customer service to the central aid office and graduate offices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the administration of federal, state, and private loan programs for undergraduate and graduate students, including origination, certification, disbursement, and reconciliation processes.
  • Provide comprehensive support to the graduate school offices regarding financial aid policies, loan options, and application procedures.
  • Monitor evolving federal and state financial aid regulations and ensuring institutional compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with the Loans and Graduate Aid team and broader financial aid office to streamline workflows, share best practices, and resolve complex loan-related issues. Assist in training staff on loan programs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve loan processing efficiency and student experience through enhanced technology solutions, automation, or workflow redesign.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external lenders, loan servicers, and graduate program administrators to facilitate smooth loan delivery and resolution of student concerns.

Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA's mission; enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.

About the Candidate

A Bachelor's degree is required for this position. We are seeking a candidate who:
  • Has one to three years of experience in a service- and detail-oriented position;
  • Displays strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills;
  • Is an effective communicator, and;
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid policies, procedures, and regulations is preferred.

  • Remote work is dependent on performance and responsibility. This position is designated as remote-local. The successful candidate must reside within a 3-hour commuting distance of the University to attend occasional in-person events as required.
