Housing Custodial Supervisor

Job Description
The Office of Housing at The University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for a Custodial Supervisor. This position is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of custodial services across multiple Housing facilities through direct supervision of the building custodial supervisors. This role ensures that all assigned facilities meet established cleanliness, appearance, and safety standards through the development, implementation, and maintenance of operational practices and procedures. The position approves all custodial supply orders, manages inventory, and provides supervisory support to lower-level supervisors in areas including personnel issues, disciplinary actions, training, and procedural guidance. This role also coordinates the Housing Facilities custodial training program, ensuring all staff receive appropriate instruction and tracking training completion for compliance purposes.


Responsibilities
1. Supervises the performance of 4 building supervisors and 9 custodial personnel; provides new employee training; evaluates employees; investigates complaints or performance concerns.
2. Manages and ensures effective employee relations; creates an ethical, non-discriminatory, and safe work environment; establishes effective communication lines/methods.
3. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and oversees day-to-day custodial operations.
4. Develops and prepares work schedules; prioritizes and coordinates duties and assignments of custodial staff; assures effective workflow and custodial operations; adjusts work schedules as necessary.
5. Reviews and revises work procedures to assure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with established regulations, policies, and standards.
6. Communicate with housing administrators, vendors, sales representatives, and others regarding supplies and materials.
7. Orders, stocks, and replenishes supplies; provides the tools and equipment required to perform custodial service.
8. Assists in the management of residence halls by working with Hall Directors and Resident Assistants to contribute to the efficient operation of halls.
9. Assists with cleaning and maintaining facilities by daily inspecting buildings.
10. Assists with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed.
11. Assists in the preparation and clean up for housing guests such as camp and conference attendees.


Qualifications
Minimum:
  • High school diploma and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment, to include operation and safety.
  • Knowledge in the use and safety of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to provide staff guidance and properly train in the use of equipment, materials and safety policies and practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate quality and service standards, departmental policies, procedures, goals and expectations to staff.
  • Ability to ensure that custodial staff provide timely, accurate and appropriate responses to routine custodial issues as well as emergency responses to more urgent situations.
  • Good written and oral communication.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
