Primary Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director plays a critical role in advancing UNC Pembroke's commitment to student success by connecting students to essential campus and community resources, expanding access to high-impact learning opportunities, and strengthening partnerships that support student engagement and well-being. This position serves as a central liaison between the university and external community partners, supporting collaborative initiatives that address students' basic needs while fostering meaningful service, experiential learning, and engagement opportunities.
Job Description:
The Assistant Director strengthens UNC Pembroke's partnerships with the broader community while advancing student success through resource connection, engagement opportunities, and collaborative initiatives.
A primary focus of the role is community partnership development and engagement, which involves building and maintaining relationships with agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and government organizations to support service-learning, engagement, and basic needs programs. The Assistant Director will serve as the main liaison between the university and community partners, organize events such as partnership fairs and resource sessions, and manage community partner profiles through UNCP Serve.
In addition, the Assistant Director will work directly with students to connect them with campus and community resources that address basic need challenges in an effort to remove barriers to academic and personal success. This includes developing and implementing systems to proactively identify and refer students to appropriate resources, facilitate a cross-agency network that connects students with resources and service opportunities while addressing resource gaps, and oversee student outreach efforts that increase awareness and utilization of support services.
The position will develop and offer opportunities for community partners to engage with students and support efforts to secure donations, sponsorships, and other forms of support for community engagement and basic needs initiatives. The Assistant Director will supervise student leaders and interns who support outreach, engagement, and resource connection efforts.
Management Preference:
- Bachelor's degree in any field required. Master's degree preferred.
- One-two (2) years of experience in community engagement, student affairs, social services, or program coordination preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with external organizations.
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
