Position Announcement
Join Utah Valley University as a Custodial Supervisor and take an active role in creating a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment. Under the direction of the Facilities Services Manager, you will lead both full-time and part-time custodial staff in specialized cleaning and general building maintenance, ensuring facilities meet high standards of health, safety, and functionality. By rotating between work areas, you'll gain variety in your responsibilities while supporting a positive experience for students, employees, and visitors alike.
This position offers the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work with a dedicated team, and make a visible impact on the university community. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 4:15 p.m.-1:15 a.m., providing consistent hours and a structured work routine.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Actively leads the work of Facilities Services Technicians in general building maintenance, custodial equipment repair, pest control, furniture repair, furniture set-up and moves, hanging/installing accessories in restrooms and offices, cleaning, refinishing and maintaining a variety of floor coverings and surfaces. Assigns work orders and performs inspections of daily and weekly activities. Supervises and trains full-time and part-time staff in Facilities Services operations
- Performs various preventative and maintenance repairs to facilities such as lights, toilets, walls, blinds, fixtures, etc. to ensure buildings and/or equipment are in proper operating condition. Performs various maintenance trades work requiring the application of trade skills, codes, and standard trade practices. Inspects assigned buildings, fixtures, machines, and appliances as necessary.
- Maintains and repairs various types of furniture, fabric surfaces and upholstery. Performs minor installation, repair, and replacement of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating and cooling systems as needed; reports any complex or unusual problems to supervisor. Estimates time, personnel, and material required on assigned tasks and keeps necessary records . Maintains custodial equipment and vehicles: Performs preventative and repair maintenance on equipment such as buffers, vacuums, extractors, scrubbers, burnishers, appliances, etc. Performs preventative and operating maintenance on vehicles, i.e. fueling, monitoring tire pressure, oil and coolant levels, staff of batteries and other components as necessary.
- Coordinates and carries out furniture moves and set-ups, hanging accessories in offices, and installs all restroom accessories after remodels and new building construction.
- Coordinates and assists in the inventory of parts, equipment, and cleaning supplies. Receives shipments of custodial supply orders and purchases small quantities of locally available supplies. Organizes closets and storage areas to stock parts and supplies.
- Performs other Job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a associate's degree and two years experience related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic systems maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of various types of motors.
- Knowledge of basic hand tools and equipment used in routine building maintenance.
- Knowledge of ADA standards for proper mounting of equipment and accessories.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and standards.
- Knowledge of all floor types such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, and ceramic tile as well as carpet fibers, weaves and backings.
- Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums and scrubbers.
- Knowledge of basic pest control.
- Knowledge of safe work practices including building safety codes and regulations
- Good interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills. Must be service oriented; actively seeks opportunities to help others.
- Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to trade.
- Skills in operating personal computers, including the accompanying CMMS software and Microsoft Office software.
- Strong team building skills: Works to create a team-based environment.

- Ability to understand chemical cleaning application and methods.
- Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and delegate work.
- Ability to work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines
