Position Description
Under general supervision performs skilled mechanical or analytical duties on various projects. May supervise subordinate employees.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Conduct laboratory safety training for graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with maintaining compliance with university policies.
  • Operation, maintenance of, and training of the proper use of rock sample preparation equipment such as rock saws, jaw crushers, shatter box equipment, gold tables.
  • Produce petrographic thin sections for faculty and student research or classroom instruction.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and/or fabricate equipment used in various department teaching and research spaces.
  • Assist with maintaining and surveying department inventory records and distributing inventory tags.
  • Miscellaneous and varied duties deemed necessary in support of the Department of Geosciences and Texas Tech University.


Required Qualifications
High school or equivalent and three years work experience. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical skills and knowledge required to prepare geologic samples for teaching and research.
  • Undergraduate degree in geology or related subject, including engineering.
