Join Utah Valley University as a Landscape Specialist and contribute to creating beautiful, sustainable, and functional outdoor spaces that support learning, community, and the environment. In this role, you'll design and enhance campus landscapes using waterwise and sustainability-focused techniques, including xeriscaping and strategic planting. You'll collaborate closely with grounds and irrigation teams to plan and implement features like walkways, benches, and green spaces that align with UVU's long-term goals.

This position offers the opportunity to blend creativity and technical skill, from developing and presenting landscape designs to participating in hands-on maintenance and improvement projects. Summary of Responsibilities


  • Oversees and performs renovations on campus of landscape redesigns using waterwise techniques and sustainability best practices. This includes xeri/zeroscaping and the planting of new trees/shrubs/sod and other landscaping across campus. Operates heavy equipment such as back hoes, track hoe, skid steers and various other landscaping equipment to assist in the successful implementation of work being performed.
  • This position will help in the irrigation repairs and maintenance often working in teams with other Watermasters across campus.
  • Control inventory of landscaping materials and supplies. Submits requisitions and helps in the procurement process to receive in a timely manner. Maintains accurate and accessible records as assigned.
  • Conducts snow removal in timely and safe manner on all UVU properties.
  • Works with UVU Project Managers and professional Landscape Architects when necessary.
  • Performs other Grounds Specialist job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an associate's degree in a closely related field plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling three years.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Grounds and Landscaping best practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safe operations when using heavy and small landscaping equipment.
  • Knowledge of sprinkler and irrigation repair.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
Skills
  • Skills in operation of landscape equipment.
  • Skills in training and supervision of hourly employees.
  • Skills in time and resource management.
Abilities
  • Ability to mockup drawings and present areas of recommended renovations and redesigns to upper management.
  • Ability to meet important Grounds and other UVU deadlines.
