Position Summary

Reporting to the Head Coach, Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving, the Assistant Coach will assist with coaching, teaching, instructing, planning, and recruiting for the women's and men's swimming programs. They manage the daily aquatic operations of the Messmore Swimming Pool.



This position requires frequent travel, as well as evening and weekend hours.



Essential Functions

  • Assists in skill instruction and student-athlete development both on and off the field.

  • Evaluates, identifies, and recruits quality student-athletes in compliance with University, Atlantic 10, and NCAA regulations and policies. Complies with all NCAA, Atlantic 10, and University rules and regulations.

  • Assists the head coach with administrative operations of the program as needed.

  • Trains, schedules, and supervises lifeguards.

  • Organizes and coordinates the schedule for the Messmore Swimming Pool for M/W Swim & Dive, Water Polo, open swim, and more.

  • Responsible for the Pool Health and Safety Plan.

  • Works with University Facilities to coordinate and manage a comprehensive program of facility and water sanitation operations, equipment repair, and preventative maintenance.

  • Monitors pool instrumentation and corrects the chemical feeders, filters, and heating and cooling system as needed.

  • Ensures pool area cleanliness, monitoring of chemicals, enforcement of safety guidelines, and adherence to all Aquatic Center Rules in conjunction with University Campus Operations.

  • Maintains users' records daily and hourly, as well as maintenance schedules.

  • Ensures compliance with all NYC Aquatic regulations and all permits and equipment are up-to-date and code compliant.

Management Responsibilities

Guides work of other employees who perform essentially the same work and/or student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work, but is generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management or compensation.



Additional Functions

  • Attends fundraising and community service events upon request to support the program.

  • Promotes program through social media.

  • Operates University-owned or leased vehicles to transport students, staff, and/or equipment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and insurance requirements.




Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a coach or student-athlete or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Lifeguard Certification




Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

  • High-level organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and motivation to building a successful program.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Understanding and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Docs, and proficiency with social media tools.

  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.




Preferred Qualifications

  • Coaching experience in an NCAA program.

  • Valid Driver's License.




Minimum Starting Salary: $55,000



Maximum Starting Salary: $61,500



Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
