Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

Performs component replacement and repairs on refrigeration and HVAC systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and valving.
Conducts preventive maintenance on refrigeration, exhaust, ventilation, and air production equipment; inspects, calibrates, tests system devices; handles CFC recovery and recycling with documentation.
Maintains gas furnaces by inspecting, testing, cleaning, repairing, and adjusting or replacing controls for safe, efficient operation; maintains air compressors for research labs.
Performs ongoing maintenance of mechanical and equipment rooms, including air handlers, pumps, pipes, and insulation; services air handlers as needed.
Assists Tradesperson Leader with inspecting job assignments and supervising work site operations.
Supports record-keeping of materials and labor for each job; helps assess material requirements and prepares requisitions.
Maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe, organized condition; operates pickups, trucks, and vans; secures equipment and work areas.
Provides after-hours and emergency overtime work on a rotating basis.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable to operate motor vehicles.
