Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychologist

Job Summary
The Clinical Assistant Professor/Psychologist in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a newly designated position with possible roles in designing and teaching graduate courses related to collegiate mental health and psychological well-being.

As a unit psychologist this position provides multiculturally competent clinical services to students, including triage/intake assessment, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and testing.

This position participates in an on-call rotation, training activities for Master's and doctoral level trainees, including supervision, teaching and provision of seminars. This position also provides consultation and outreach to the campus community: students, staff, faculty, and parents. Adhering to professional standards is emphasized, including the maintenance of appropriate clinical documentation according to established protocol.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Fulfills academic teaching needs with opportunity
  • Provides clinical services to individuals, couples, and groups
  • Diagnoses or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers treatment accordingly
  • Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment programs accordingly
  • Provides crisis intervention services when necessary
  • Provides supervision of graduate practicum and internship students
  • Provides testing and assessment services e.g., ADHD/LD assessment
  • Meets regularly with CAPS staff to maintain team approach, engage in problem solving, and stay up-to-date regarding University and center functions and/or changes
  • Serves in on-call rotation
  • Communicates with parents, professors, additional mental health service providers, and other relevant parties when needed and with appropriate signed releases of information
  • Maintains Florida Psychologist license and completes required CEUs
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on-campus

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or equivalent from an APA accredited program
  • Active/clear license in the state of Florida, in accordance with FS 490, or active/clear license in another state and license eligible in the state of Florida within appropriate amount of time according to board process.
  • Two or more years' experience in college mental health or university counseling


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a licensed psychologist
  • Experience in research, teaching and presentation experience in college student mental health
  • Experience providing supervision, preferably to graduate students and doctoral interns
  • Experience working with a range of mental health concerns including anxiety and stress, depression, relationship concerns, trauma and self-esteem/confidence, substance abuse, personality disorders, eating disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and post-traumatic stress
  • Experience consulting with other service areas such as primary health care, prevention, and wellness
  • Experience administering and interpreting psychological tests, particularly tests used to assess for ADHD and learning disorders: (e.g., WAIS, WIAT, CPT, CAARS) and personality measures (e.g., PAI, MMPI-2)
  • Experience using Titanium software

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and abide by all relevant state laws regarding the practice of psychology and psychotherapy
  • Ability to exhibit strong leadership and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to supervise Master's and doctoral level trainees
  • Able to develop academic courses related to psychology and other needed areas of instruction
  • Ability to work in close collaboration with academic departments and service departments
  • Ability to facilitate and manage individual and group therapy sessions
  • Skill in providing outreach programs or information to the university community
  • Teaching skills and ability in presenting/facilitating to large audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with colleagues and other constituencies across campus
  • Ability to make decisions and problem-solve
  • Knowledge of professional ethical principles and guidelines, and ability to practice within those guidelines and principles
  • Knowledge of Florida Statute (FS) 490 and 491, FERPA, HIPAA, and other state and federal documents that guide legal and ethical decisions and policy making
  • Ability to learn or skill in using counseling services data base system and technology
  • Knowledge of personal computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet computer software
  • Multicultural awareness, knowledge, understanding, responsiveness, and skills to work with culturally diverse populations
  • Knowledge of basic counseling skills, theories of change, and psychotherapeutic approaches
  • Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in college student population
  • Advanced skills in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, testing/assessment, supervision and training and giving presentations/workshops
