Position Description
Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions
The Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute in the Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University seeks an ambitious candidate with a strong focus on sustainable materials, bioproducts discovery and development to advance a research program in Sustainable Bioproducts and strengthen our current research team. The vision for this position is to accelerate the transition of our Society to a Circular Economy, and to create opportunities for sustainable product development. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with expectations to perform world-class research, teaching (one or two classes/academic year), participate in activities of the national and international scientific communities, and exhibit professional excellence. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities.

Service to the department, college, and university is expected. Additional summer salary could be supported through teaching and/or research. Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses, the direction of graduate student's research, students advising, and otherwise advancing education. Desired research focus areas include discovering uses of underivatized biomasses, the transformation of biopolymers to biochemicals and bioproducts, and chemical and enzymatic degradation of biopolymers. Participating in collaboration and innovation activities and interactions with plant science scientists at Texas Tech University Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute are highly encouraged. Generation of extramural grant support is expected, particularly from nationally-competitive funds.

Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidates intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.
