The Male Success Initiative is an initiative of California State University, Fullerton where undergraduate men of color achieve the fullness of their potential. We strive to support and advance the outcomes of undergraduate men of color by providing tailored programming and services that equip and empower brothers with the skills and knowledge needed to foster academic success; establish a support network of mentors; increase graduation and retention rates; strengthen the sense of brotherhood among all CSUF students who self-identify as men of color (African American, Hispanic/Latina, Asian-American/Pacific Islander, American Indian, and multicultural men, this also includes men of trans experience). We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Administrative Support Coordinator I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under general direction, the Administrative Support Coordinator I is responsible for providing general office support to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Plans, initiates, executes, and coordinates projects, activities, and events with accountability for results. Maintains files, processes documents and records, gathers data, and interacts with and solves problems for work unit customers and staff. Uses customer service and problem solving skills to respond to customers via email, telephone, and in person. Uses a variety of office support technology and systems such as word processing and spreadsheet packages to complete assignments. Coordinates and schedules meetings and events as needed. Addresses a wide range of work unit problems which require interpreting policies and procedures and using ingenuity to put information together in new ways. Coordinates and works with individuals at all levels within the organization.
Under the direction of the Director of the Male Success Initiative-Fullerton (MSI-Fullerton), the Administrative Support
Coordinator I (ASC-I) responsibilities include supporting the clerical and administrative functions of the Director, Senior Program Coordinator and the MSI-Fullerton Department. The purpose of MSI-Fullerton is to support and advance the potential of undergraduate men of color by providing tailored programming and services that empower brothers with the skills and knowledge needed to foster academic success; establish a support network of mentors; increase graduation & retention rates; and strengthen the sense of brotherhood among all CSUF students who self-identify as men of color (African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian-American/Pacific Islander, American Indian, and multiracial men, this also includes men of trans experience). Housed within the division of Student Affairs, under the Retention Cluster, MSI-Fullerton is currently lead by a Director, who leads a full time staff consisting of a senior program coordinator (SSP III), ASC-I, graduate assistants, peer and faculty mentors, and student workers. Additionally, MSI-Fullerton annually provides (15) scholarships to incoming freshmen men of color known as our MSI-Scholars. However, all current undergraduate CSUF men of color can opt in participate in MSI-Fullerton by becoming an MSI-Fellow. Both MSI-Scholars and MSI-Fellows participate as brothers in year-long tailored academic support programs; leadership, engagement, enrichment and development retreats and opportunities; career trajectory planning; and explorations of gender and masculinity.
The ASC-I provides day-to-day clerical and administrative support for the Director, Senior Program Coordinator (SSP III), and (2) Graduate Assistants. Additionally, the ASC-1 will supervise (3-4) student assistances, and help to support MSI-Success Scholars and MSI-Fellows on an individual basis. Independently prepares, submits and maintains appropriate CMS hiring documents, timesheets, and files for 3-4 student assistants and tracks and monitors MSI-Fullerton expenditures. Schedules travel arrangements. Other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or the equivalent and four years of progressively responsible experience in general office, clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thorough knowledge of office systems with the ability to use a range of technology, systems and software packages. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to apply a variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to perform standard business math including calculating ratios and percentages, tracking financial data, and making simple projections. Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports. Ability to handle effectively a broad range of interpersonal contacts including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
