Position Summary
The Facility Manager will support the development and operation of preclinical research core services within the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The successful applicant will oversee daily operations related to surgical, physiological, behavioral, and neurophysiology service activities; provide technical consultation and training to investigators; perform specialized rodent surgical procedures; and maintain core instrumentation and recording platforms. The Facility Manager will ensure that all services are provided with a high degree of technical rigor, reproducibility, regulatory compliance, animal welfare oversight, and customer service.
Working closely with core leadership, the Facility Manager will assist with implementation of new technologies, development of user-training programs, implementation of fee-for-service operations, expansion of the user base, and growth of shared research infrastructure supporting the University at Buffalo research community.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience performing survival rodent surgeries, including stereotaxic surgery.
- Experience working under IACUC-approved animal protocols.
- Experience with aseptic surgical technique, anesthesia monitoring, analgesia, and post-operative care.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and user requests.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with advanced stereotaxic surgery approaches including intracranial injections, chronic implants, or cranial window preparations.
- Experience with rodent vascular catheterization, telemetry implantation, or advanced physiological monitoring.
- Experience training students, technicians, or investigators in animal surgical techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IACUC, IBC, EH&S, and laboratory animal regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing or supporting a shared-resource core facility.
- Experience with iLabs, cost-recovery models, service centers, or fee-for-service operations.
- Familiarity with telemetry, fiber photometry, miniscope imaging, neurophysiology, or other in vivo neuroscience methodologies.
- Experience developing SOPs, quality-control programs, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with investigators across diverse disciplines.
- 2 or more years of experience in a biomedical science research lab setting.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation while working independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally at multiple levels with diverse audiences .
Physical Demands
Salary Range
$70,000 - $85,000
