This is a grant-funded position scheduled to end on June 30th, 2027. Continued employment is contingent upon funding.

This is an internal job posting, open to current employees of the University Corporation at Monterey Bay only.

SALARY

Salary Grade: Staff, Grade 3

Hiring Range: $25 hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tutor Coordinator directly reports to the Associate Director of GEAR UP under the general oversight of the

Pre-College Program Director. The Tutor Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the academic tutorial

program including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating all academic tutors. The Tutor Coordinator will build

relationships across the high school and college campus to identify, train and recruit potential academic tutors.

The Tutor Coordinator occasionally supports activities in the drop-in tutoring center al each of the schools in the

Coastal and Salinas Valley.

Examples of Duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruiting/Hiring

Utilize recruiting tools/ websites as resources to guide the candidates.
Coordinate all stages of hiring, screening application, through school site placement.

Training/Development

Design and facilitate monthly tutor training meetings both at the beginning and then regularly throughout the year covering tutoring techniques, best practices and theory.
Develop and maintain a tutorial handbook of policies and procedures and maintain record keeping on usage and trends.

Scheduling

Coordinate and maintain tutor schedules with relevant school site staff
Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the GEAR UP grant including maintaining procedures and presentations related to the GEAR-UP program: and developing recruitment and outreach materials, including newsletters and social media sites.

Other Functions:

Represents the GEAR UP programs at university functions and at statewide and national meetings, as necessary.
Communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups of varying ages and cultural backgrounds to disseminate information, resolve problems. and clarify solutions.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in education, counseling, or a related field
2 years of relevant experience working in peer education or student learning support programs.

A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence.
An understanding of various challenges that impact first-generation college students and low-income students, and how to assist these students to college graduation
Strong leadership, team building, and group facilitation skills
Any amount of proven work experience in a GEAR UP/TRIO Outreach Program

CSAs are employees whose job duties fall into one of the following categories:
- Work in a campus police or security department
- Are responsible for campus security
- Are designated as the contact for reporting criminal offenses
- Have significant responsibility for student and campus activities
