Northeastern - NYC Behavioral Health Counselor

Job Summary:

The Northeastern- NYC Behavioral Health Counselor's primary responsibility is to provide psychological counseling services to Northeastern- NYC students. These services will include initial consultation, emergency evaluation, crisis intervention and brief psychotherapy. The position will also involve outreach activities to the Northeastern-NYC community and collaboration with various campus stakeholders. The counselor will be responsible for making appropriate referrals for psychopharmacological evaluation and external ongoing counseling, and for referral to emergency mental health services, when appropriate. Time spent amongst the various clinical service activities may shift in proportion to changes in service demands at any given time of the year. The counselor will often work closely with academic departments and Student Affairs and will collaborate with medical clinicians at the Dow Zanghi Student Health Center as appropriate, all in the interest of providing the best possible team-oriented health care to Northeastern-NYC students. Responsibilities:

i. Consultation, outreach and committee work: Serve on University and Divisional committees, participate in the development, planning and provision of campus mental health and health promotions outreach. Consult with faculty, staff and administrators regarding mental health needs of students.

ii. Assist CWC Director in various administrative and clinical roles; acts in a leadership capacity in absence of the Director.

iii. Direct clinical services: Provide direct clinical services including initial consultation and disposition assignment, short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, emergency evaluation, case management, electronic documentation, campus and community referrals, and ongoing maintenance of referral database.

iv. In service and supervision: Provide in-service trainings to various campus departments. Participate in the administration of the externship program, including individual and group supervision and didactic seminars (degree of involvement will depend on candidate's degree).

v. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology with New York license is preferred but not required. Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling field, with New York  license is required. Strongly preferred 5+ years' experience and competency in urgent and crisis assessment and treatment, short-term psychotherapy, treatment of alcohol/drug abuse, eating disorders, working with adolescents and college-aged clientele, demonstrated success in working effectively in an interdisciplinary team setting, and must work exceptionally well with students identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQ+ students, international students, first generation and other under-represented students and communities on campus. Must have a sophisticated understanding of how intersectionality, privilege, and socioeconomic status relate to the mental health of a global student community.

Salary Range: $74,640.00 To $115,690.00 Annually
