Position Summary
A Research Technician II position is available at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine's Department of Oral Biology with Dr. Camila Sabatini's research team. The primary objective of this position is to study dental pulp stem cells, with a focus on regenerative dentistry. The successful candidate should be able to manage multiple detail-oriented tasks with minimal supervision, capable of trouble-shooting and critical thinking, develop and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments, histological processing and imaging, molecular biology techniques, perform administrative tasks, self-motivated, dedicated and creative. Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well with others, and willingness to learn new lab techniques and follow instructions are key. Prior experience with animal work is a strong plus.

The activities of the Research Technician II will consist of:
  • Mammalian cell culture;
  • DNA/RNA extraction and PCR;
  • Protein detection/quantification and cell signaling studies (immunofluorescence, western blotting, ELISA, plasmid recombination);
  • Mice and Ferret: maintaining the colony, breeding and genotyping, and sample harvesting;
  • Histology (sample preparation);
  • Microscopy imaging (brightfield, confocal, and transmission electron microscopy);
  • Flow cytometry: multiple channel FACS analysis and immune profiling;
  • Administrative duties (taking notes during lab meetings, assisting with purchase orders and inventory management, and managing protocol submissions and documentation, lab organization);
  • Training and supervision of new technicians and students;
  • Requires experience with statistical software Graphpad Prism.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires an associate's degree or two years formal training in a biomedical science or related field and at least three years of experience directly related to research or the program.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory protocols.
  • Experience with animals.
  • Tissue culture skills.
  • Histology sample preparation and microscopy imaging.
  • Experience in molecular biology: immunoblotting, DNA/RNA extraction and PCR.
  • Highly self-disciplined.
  • Proficient in Graphpad Prism, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, basic imaging software (ImageJ, QuPath).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in ELISA and Flow cytometry;
  • Experience in PCR;
  • Microscopy imaging
