Job Summary:
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science invites applications for a 100% special faculty/lecturer position for the Music Program house in the Fine and Performing Arts Department to begin mid-September 2026.
Teaching duties include applied trumpet or trombone, Music History, Pedagogy for Musicians, Senior Thesis Capstone, brass ensemble, Rep Jazz, Counterpoint, Global Music Studies, Brass methods and may include graduate courses in history or theory. This is a multidisciplinary position; candidates must be able to teach in two areas of music along with topics in music appreciation.
Applied studio teaching includes both upper and lower division courses, as well as overseeing junior and senior recital projects. This includes quarterly juries, convocation performances and facilitating community engagement activities that connect students with professional experiences in the music industry.
Priority will be given to candidates with experience teaching music history and applied trumpet or trombone at the college level for 3+ years.
The typical workload for this position will involve teaching 45 credits per academic year, subject to department needs. The position also requires the faculty member to participate in quarterly juries, prospective student auditions, recruiting activities and program meetings. The candidate is not required to serve on committees unless this work is identified and approved as part of the workload by Department Chair and College Dean.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and maintain health and safety protocols in assigned classrooms.

This Lecturer appointment for academic year 2026-2027 will have the option for renewal based on performance, funding availability and department need.

Required Qualifications:
- MM (Master of Music) in Music Performance with musicology certificate or cognate or related field.
- Record of success teaching applied trumpet and/or trombone at the college-level for music majors in performance and/or education.
- 3+ years of experience in university-level teaching and curriculum development.
- Experience in conducting college level ensembles such as brass, jazz and/or chamber music.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preference may be given to candidates who offer one or more of the following preferred qualifications:
- DMA or PhD in Music History or related field.
- Artist diploma or equivalent in instrumental performance
- Record of professional performance experience in trumpet or trombone.
- Ability to teach lecture-based courses in music history topics, popular music and global music appreciation.
- Ability to teach graduate level courses in history, theory or performance related topics.
- Record of success teaching at the college level for 3+ years.

- Teach courses in music culture in at least one of these topics: Music Appreciation. Global Music and/or Music History Surveys (ancient to contemporary)
- Teach applied lessons in trumpet or trombone, all levels.
- Teach courses in Counterpoint and Brass methods.
Additional courses to be considered based on the expertise of the candidate. - Mentor music majors in the brass area.
- Manage/oversee junior and senior recital projects.
- Participate in student based professional activities such as the annual Creative Works Symposium on campus.
Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
- Meet all scheduled classes
- Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales.
- Schedule and attend office hours.
- Attend music program meetings.
- Maintain regular and professional communication with colleagues.
- Turn in grades according to established deadlines.
