About the College
Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
About the Department/School/Area
The Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management offers a face-to-face and an online B.S. in Kinesiology and a face-to-face M.S. in Kinesiology for over 1,500 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, respectively. The department enrolls over 400 undergraduate students in the B.S. in Sport Management and over 100 master's degree students in a face-to-face and an online M.S. in Sport Management. It also offers a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology. Its building includes six classrooms, a student computer lab, and faculty offices.
Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach courses in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department.
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
As a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management, you will be expected to:
- Contribute to the teaching mission of the department.
- Provide service to the department, college, and university.
Faculty Qualifications
- Minimum of master's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a closely related health or rehabilitation discipline.
- Three or more years of teaching experience in kinesiology, exercise science, athletic training, or related allied health care disciplines, including undergraduate kinesiology courses, or equivalent teaching experience in secondary school, medical, classroom, clinical, laboratory, or other professional training settings. [note: the language of "equivalent teaching experience" could be interpreted broadly enough to filter out an applicant whose specific experience does not match the department's needs]
- Three or more years of professional experience working in-person in athletic training or a related allied health profession such as exercise physiology, physical therapy, or occupational therapy.
- Demonstrated record of service, outreach, or community engagement through professional, clinical, educational, or community-based activities.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to meeting the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- An earned doctoral degree (no later than August 31, 2027) in kinesiology, exercise science, or closely related field.
- Professional credentials to work as an Athletic Trainer, Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Physical Therapist, or other related field.
- Three or more years of face-to-face or in-person undergraduate teaching experience in kinesiology, exercise science, athletic training, or related allied health disciplines, including experience teaching courses in athletic training, exercise testing and prescription, biomechanics, or related areas.
- At least one year of online teaching experience of undergraduate kinesiology courses or equivalent.
