The School of Hospitality Administration (SHA) seeks a collaborative and student-centered Manager of Academic Advising to serve as the primary academic advisor for both undergraduate and graduate students. This position provides holistic academic advising, supports student success initiatives, and oversees key registrar functions in partnership with the Undergraduate and Graduate Program Chairs, faculty, and University offices. The Manager of Academic Advising plays an integral role in supporting students throughout their academic journey while helping to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the school's academic operations.

Responsibilities

The Manager of Academic Advising serves as the primary academic advisor for all undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Hospitality Administration (SHA). This position provides holistic academic advising, oversees student success initiatives, manages key registrar functions within the School, and collaborates closely with faculty, University offices, and academic leadership to support student progression from enrollment through graduation.

The Manager of Academic Advising works closely with the Undergraduate and Graduate Program Chairs, the Assistant Dean, faculty, and University partners to ensure accurate implementation of curriculum, academic policies, and student records.

Essential Function 1 (65%)

Holistic Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Advising

Serve as the primary academic advisor for all undergraduate and graduate students within SHA.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide individualized academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students regarding degree requirements, curriculum planning, registration, and academic success.
  • Develop educational plans that align with students' academic, personal, and professional goals.
  • Interpret and explain University and School academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements.
  • Monitor student progress toward degree completion and proactively identify students who may benefit from additional support.
  • Assist students experiencing academic difficulty and connect them with appropriate campus resources.
  • Advise students regarding internships, study abroad, minors, electives, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate advising documentation within MyBU Student.
  • Conduct outreach to promote student engagement and timely degree progression.
  • Support students through academic petitions, course substitutions, independent studies, leaves of absence, withdrawals, and other academic processes.


Essential Function 2 (20%)

Registrar and Academic Operations

Serve as the School's primary liaison for registrar-related academic operations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with the Undergraduate and Graduate Program Chairs on curriculum management and implementation.
  • Coordinate curriculum updates and support course proposal processes.
  • Submit grade change requests and assist with academic record corrections.
  • Assist students with course registration, registration troubleshooting, and enrollment exceptions.
  • Process registration permissions and other enrollment-related transactions.
  • Coordinate with the University Registrar's Office regarding academic policies and student records.
  • Maintain expertise in MyBU Student and other University academic systems.
  • Assist with academic scheduling processes and support implementation of curriculum changes.
  • Ensure compliance with University academic policies and federal regulations related to student records.


Essential Function 3 (10%)

Student Services and Student Success
  • Support student engagement and School-wide student success initiatives.
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with undergraduate and graduate orientation programming.
  • Support commencement and convocation activities.
  • Coordinate and support student success initiatives throughout the academic year.
  • Assist with student programming and community-building events.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the student experience.
  • Support student organizations and leadership initiatives as assigned.


Essential Function 4 (5%)

University and School Service
  • Represent SHA on the University Advising Steering Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, higher education administration, student services, registrar operations, or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience advising both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience working with student information systems such as MyBU Student or similar enterprise systems.
  • Experience interpreting academic policies, curriculum requirements, and degree audits.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and academic leadership.
  • Experience with curriculum management, registration processes, or registrar operations.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and student records regulations.
