Job Summary:

The Acquisitions and Collection Analysis Librarian leads the library's acquisitions, collection budget management, and collection assessment activities, with a focus on data-informed decision-making and sustainable collection strategies. This position oversees continuing resources expenditures, vendor negotiations, and collection analysis while collaborating closely with department colleagues on lifecycle management of electronic resources.

Supervision

The Acquisitions and Collection Analysis Librarian reports to the Head of Collection Management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Acquisitions and Collection Analysis Librarian has no direct reports, but may oversee the work of students, volunteers or other staff on committee work, specific projects, or as requested.

Faculty Status

University of Colorado Anschutz Health Sciences Library faculty members serve as promotion eligible, non-tenure track faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

Acquisitions & Budget Management

  • Lead acquisitions workflows for continuing resources, including journals, databases, and large ebook packages.

  • Collaborate with the Department Head in monitoring the collections budget (approximately $3.3 million), including forecasting, tracking expenditures, and reporting.

  • Lead communications with CU Libraries Electronic Resources Team (CLERT) and other consortia, including cost-sharing calculations, payment tracking, and joint subscription approvals.

  • Manage electronic resource procurement processes, including contracting and renewals, institutional procurement workflows, and IT/security review coordination, in collaboration with team members.

  • Manage vendor communication and negotiation responsibilities, including pricing, contract terms, and renewals, in collaboration with team members.

  • Manage invoicing and payment tracking, including coordination with vendors and finance offices.

  • Maintain acquisitions and financial records in Alma.

  • Update the department electronic resources management workflow tracker.

  • Provide financial and analytical context to support electronic resource lifecycle management.

    Collection Analysis & Strategy

  • Lead collection analysis and reporting, including national surveys and institutional reporting.

  • Conduct cost analyses across electronic resources and assist with journal package evaluations.

  • Manage the life cycle of large e-book collections and assist with electronic resources weeding and deselection projects.

  • Assess and manage Read & Publish agreements, including cost-benefit analysis.

  • Assist with investigating and recommending alternative access models (e.g., ILL, article-level access, demand-driven models).

    Other Duties as Assigned

  • Contribute to the development of policies, guidelines, and best practices and maintain the information in designated Collection Management folders and drives.

  • Participate in library-wide activities, such as serving on library committees and task forces.

  • Participate in cross-campus activities, such as serving on committees and task forces.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively in groups as both a team leader and a team member.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    The Acquisitions and Collection Analysis Librarian is expected to assume personal responsibility for designing and implementing a plan for continuing professional development, and to actively contribute to their profession through scholarly and service activities.


    Work Location:

    Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master's degree in library and/or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited or equivalent accrediting body program at time of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in acquisitions, budgeting, or collection development in an academic or health sciences library.

  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating license agreements/contracts in an academic library.

  • Experience with a Library Services Platform (LSP), such as ExLibris Alma.

  • Experience working with acquisitions and/or funds management modules in an LSP.

  • Experience working with a university finance system for processing payments and/or monitoring collections budget, such as SciQuest and PeopleSoft.

  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis and reporting.

  • Experience with e-resource renewals and/or life cycle.

  • Familiarity with COUNTER usage metrics.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $73,923 to $86,490.64

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
