About the Department and/or College
The McNair Scholars Program is a two-year program that prepares first-generation and low-income students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair provides a series of workshops on the research process, culminating in an eight-week summer research program. The program also prepares participants for applying to graduate school through a series of workshops on the GRE, writing a personal statement and CV, funding and navigating graduate school culture.

Major/Essential Functions
McNair Scholar Programming Coordination (50%) Operates largely independently to coordinate, execute, and evaluate student-facing programming specifically for the McNair Scholars cohort. Diagnoses programmatic challenges and proposes potential solutions to enhance Scholar attendance, learning strategy support, and graduate school preparation. Utilizes existing standards to provide standard professional advice to McNair Scholars navigating high-impact educational practices.

McNair Campus Recruitment & Outreach (20%) Builds productive internal relationships across campus departments to identify and recruit eligible undergraduate students into the McNair Scholars Program. Applies broad knowledge of student support concepts to perform moderately complex outreach tasks. Creates initial tracking reports and data analysis on campus recruitment efforts to assist the Program Director in evaluating outreach success.

McNair Student Assistant Coordination (15%) Coordinates the daily tasks, schedules, and workflows of student assistants supporting the McNair Scholars Program operations. Applies intermediate knowledge of university practices to train student workers and resolve mutual scheduling or operational problems through collaboration. Assists in upholding community standards and professional expectations among the student staff.

McNair Program Communications (15%) Manages McNair-specific communications, including social media and cohort newsletters, to empower current and prospective Scholars with timely resources. Exercises some latitude in content creation while adhering to established federal TRIO and institutional guidelines. Adapts existing communication techniques to effectively reach target, grant-eligible student populations and increase engagement with the program.

Required Qualifications
High school plus six years experience in related field. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree
2 Years experience working with First Generation College Students
Experience with Social Media
Experience with Federal Grants

Pay Range
$21.39 - $27.84 - $34.23
