American History Adjunct Faculty

The Department of History, Anthropology, and Modern Languages and Literature at Eastern Washington University seeks applications for an adjunct faculty member who will develop and teach an accelerated, asynchronous online graduate reading seminar in Contemporary American History with a thematic emphasis (Gender, race and ethnicity, the environment, etc.) at the discretion of the instructor. The accelerated, fully online MA program in History will offer a graduate degree for working professionals who are unable to attend a campus MA program.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will develop the class in partnership with EWU's staff and consultants from Risepoint, with a stipend for course development. The course is scheduled to be taught at least three times a year at an adjunct pay rate that is at least $4500 per class. Duties include:
- 1. Course development using the EWU templates and standards
2. Working with EWU staff during course development
3. Teaching the class, including student communication and grading
4. Professional and consistent communication with EWU staff and faculty as needed
Screening will begin IMMEDIATELY. The first course is scheduled to begin in September 2026.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or ABD in American History
- Two years of teaching experience at the college level, online preferred
- Course-specific requirements of graduate-level coursework experience or upper level teaching experience in contemporary American history
- Passing criminal and misconduct background checks
- Experience with Canvas CMS
- Experience teaching at the graduate level
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness in an online environment
Compensation: compensation for course development with rights going to the university, $4,500 to $5,250 for teaching each section of the class (based on class enrollment).
