Job Summary

CU Boulder encourages applications for a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Fellow! The Fellow will continue their professional development and training by completing initial psychiatric evaluations and follow-up medication management appointments with senior staff supervision. Continued educational opportunities will be provided in this program through both didactic seminars and supervision. The position may also be involved in facilitating workshops and/or groups and works with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, registered nurses, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors. This position collaborates with other campus departments as needed for the treatment of CAPS students and ensures individual experiences, identities, and systemic factors are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, and training services provided.

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) supports the well-being, mental health, and academic success of students by providing comprehensive clinical care, consultation, and outreach to the campus community. CAPS also offers outstanding training, preparing the next generation of mental health providers. Our team is multicultural and multidisciplinary, drawing from diverse professional backgrounds and theoretical approaches. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Direct Clinical Services
  • Provide new psychiatric evaluations, follow-up appointments, and pharmacological management with senior staff supervision.
  • Attend and engage in psychiatric consultations with senior staff supervision.
  • Attend and participate in regular staff consultation meetings with senior staff supervision.
  • Conduct urgent/crisis clinical services with senior staff supervision.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests when indicated with senior staff supervision.
  • Engage in opportunities for delivery of therapy services such as group therapy and workshops.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation via the EHR.
  • Provide telepsychiatry services in compliance with CAPS policies and procedures.
Administrative
  • Attend meetings as assigned.
  • Represent CAPS as a liaison, providing outreach to the campus community and collaborating with other departments and clinics.
  • Follow CAPS guidelines around charting/documentation/billing/quality improvement.
  • Participate in peer reviews and trainee evaluations.
  • Receive formal supervision a minimum of 1 hour per week with assigned supervisor.
  • Participate as assigned in educational seminars and didactics.


What You Should Know

  • These are 10-month appointments and are anticipated start on August 3, 2026 and last through June 3, 2027.
  • The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9am - 5pm, and the position has a hybrid work modality.


What We Can Offer

The salary for this 10-month position will be $76,128 with a monthly pay rate of $7,612.80. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Life division guidelines.

What We Require

  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse's Credentialing Center (ANCC) by start date.
  • Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner master's program or higher and be within 18 months of completion of this degree.
  • Completed all requirements for registration and license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Colorado or a Multicompact State License by start date.
  • Completed all requirements for registration in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by start date.
  • Completed all requirements for Provisional Prescriptive authority (RXN) license from the State of Colorado by start date.


What You Will Need

  • Proficiency with the DSM5-TR
  • Experience with Windows-based computer systems and electronic medical records
  • Demonstrates dedication to multicultural organizational development
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent social skills.
  • Proven experience in the application and integration of culturally responsive care.
  • Ability to work independently off-site.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Colorado laws governing the practice of psychiatry and privacy practices in post-secondary educational institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality.
