About the Department and/or College
Mechanical engineering is the largest major in the engineering college at Texas Tech University. The Department is ranked in the top 25 in producing B.S.M.E. graduates (a total of 274 schools reported) according to ASEE. In 2023-2024 academic year, the Department awarded 295 undergraduate degrees, 40 MS degrees, and 15 PhD degrees. In Fall 2024, the Department enrollment includes 145 graduate students and 667 undergraduate students who have met the requirements and been accepted to the ME program. In addition, another 847 first-year undergraduate students have their concentration set for ME and are working to complete the required foundational coursework/GPA requirements. This is a strong testament to the demand and strength for ME!
Major/Essential Functions
- Responsible for providing educational guidance, and academic advising for students through goal setting and writing degree plans aligning with Degree Works for Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Determine appropriate education solutions for undergraduate engineering students based on requirements and student needs and progress utilizing all appropriate systems including, but not limited to, Degree Works, Banner, Cognos, Registrars Portal, Transfer equivalency tool and Raider Success Hub.
- Participate in, plan, or implement events and activities that support recruiting, student enrollment, retention and engagement, and commencement. These events include Daily Campus Visits, Regional Events, Select Tech, Connect Tech, Resource Fairs, Transfer events, Red Raider Orientation, EOC Student Service Events, Retention workshops, and Commencement events.
- Create or participate in presentations to students, other advisors, staff, faculty, external stakeholders, and guests on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, campus or college information, enrollment, or resource information either in person or remotely utilizing Zoom, Microsoft Office Teams, Skype or other comparable online applications.
- Utilize reporting systems and applications such as Cognos, Raider Success Hub, Excel, and Banner to generate and analyze reports for student performance and recruiting trends for the college or to identify studentservice needs.
- Coordinate with external academic offices, department advisors, Student Success Specialists, and EOC personnel to proactively seek solutions to student questions and concerns, connect students with appropriate academic and non-academic resources, participate in weekly staff meetings, and respond to email communication.
- Work with other academic advisors, the Athletics Department, and the Office of the Registrar for NCAA athletic certification, Progress Toward Degrees, Prospective Athlete transcript evaluation for What If, and other athletic form submissions, course applicability, course enrollment, and questions as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; one year related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Written and oral communication skills, time management, organizational skills.
Pay Range
$16.39 - $21.30 - $26.25
