Position Description


Under supervision, will assist in developing, designing, and preparing major institutional research studies, perform complex higher order statistical analyses, and provide technical support to faculty, staff, and administration related to research methodology, survey development and design, and reporting of data and information for decision-making.

Responsibilities


  • Apply predictive analytics and statistical modeling to forecast student success and inform strategic interventions
  • Build and maintain data visualization dashboards for campuswide use and provide technical support to constituencies
  • Identify and develop data collection tools, including surveys, ensuring sound research and survey methods
  • Provide data coaching at all levels of the institution on analyzing and interpreting data to improve instruction, student, and administrative outcomes
  • Collaborate and consult with others on projects and needs related to research design and data solutions
  • Prepare and present quantitative and qualitative findings in narrative, tabular, graphical, and oral format accessible to diverse audiences via reports, presentations, and other forms of communication
  • Support federal and state-funded grants by identifying data resources, designing research methodology, performing statistical analyses, and assist with preparing institutional reports
  • Support the submission of state and federal reports (e.g., CCFS-320, IPEDS) by ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of institutional datasets.
  • Coordinate with external agencies to maintain integrity and facilitate acquisition of external database information.
  • Develop queries and extract, collect, analyze, and report data and information related to academic programs, curriculum, enrollment management, student demographics and outcomes, matriculation, and assessment.
  • Build and manage specialized databases and longitudinal data files from several sources such as the California Community College Chancellor's Office Management Information System (MIS)
  • Work closely with institutional support staff who are involved in data collection and entry to ensure the integrity of data and develop consistent professional standards for data entry.
  • Design and conduct complex research projects and evaluation related but not limited to academic and student support programs, program review, grants, accreditation, and institutional planning
  • Ensure the secure storage and handling of data in accordance with district policies and applicable federal and state regulations (e.g., FERPA)
  • Assist staff in reviewing and updating of governing board policies and administrative procedures, as appropriate.
  • Assist the supervisor in evaluating and responding to requests for research support originating within and outside the institution; works independently with requestors to clarify their needs and optimize the utility of research results.
  • Assist the supervisor in monitoring the progress of multiple research projects and developing appropriate project timelines.
  • Assist the supervisor in coordinating, training, and providing work direction and guidance as appropriate.
  • Represent the Institutional Research Office on internal and external committees and projects.
  • Participate in various regional and state forums and organizations dealing with research in community colleges.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with educational background in social behavioral sciences, statistics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of institutional research experience with formal preparation in research design, research methodology, and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Univariate, multivariate, and non-parametric statistics.
    • Sound research practices related to research methodology, research design, and principles of survey design and dissemination.
    • A variety of software packages used for statistical analysis.
    • Database management and design, computerized applications and file formats that facilitate database management.
    • The California Community College System and its relationship to the function of local community college institutional research offices.
    • Visualization software and/or reporting-dashboard technology such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Ability to:
    • Independently identify, investigate, and define issues and problems relevant to the research needs and goals of a broad constituency, locate sources of information to address these issues and problems.
    • Speak before large and small audiences with clarity, poise, and confidence; present research findings via a wide array of modalities (i.e., written, oral, tabular, etc.).
    • Understand and independently carry out complex oral and written instructions.
    • Translate data into actionable information is essential
    • Collaborate with others and provide guidance on research and data and their implications for decision-making
  • Expertise in data management
  • Expertise in predictive modeling and analytics

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution with educational background in social behavioral sciences, statistics, or related field.

SPECIAL CONDITIONSWorking hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm. This position is at the Rancho Cucamonga campus, but relocation to the Chino or Fontana campuses may be required per contract and need.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time, 12-month, classified bargaining unit position. Starting date: as soon as possible. Range 41 of the CSEA Salary Schedule, with a starting salary of Step A, $9,168. Excellent benefits package.
