Position DescriptionThe Department of Human Development and Family Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Lecturer position in Human Development and Family Sciences to begin August 1, 2026.This position is assigned to the online teaching of 8-week courses that are offered as part of five 8-week terms, scheduled throughout the year (two in the fall, two in the spring, and one in the summer) to provide better flexibility to non-traditional students that represent a significant part of the online student population at Texas Tech University. All courses in these 8-week terms are offered asynchronously. While appointed to this position, you will accrue vacation and will be required to report leave monthly following TTUs Operating Policy 70.01 and TTU System Regulation 07.12. About the Department/School/Area
The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is an interdisciplinary research department with strong graduate and undergraduate programs focused on human development across the life course, close relationships, and family dynamics. The department studies and interrogates societal factors which impact individuals, relationships, families, and communities. We offer a wide range of courses in the areas of early childhood education, human development across the lifespan, interpersonal relationships, and family science. Graduates of the department become qualified to pursue a variety of careers in healthcare, social services, education, public policy, public health programs, non-profit agencies, counseling, family life education, and/or pursue graduate studies.
Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Lecturer title designates a full-time, non-tenure-acquiring role with primary duties in teaching organized classes and/or instructional labs. In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate level.
As a faculty member in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, you will be expected to: 1) contribute to the teaching mission of the department; 2) participate in professional development related to teaching; and 3) provide service to the department through recruitment and promotion activities for the Online HDFS B.S. program. Faculty may have the opportunity to be promoted to Senior Lecturer and receive Continuing Appointment.
As a faculty member in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, you will be expected to: 1) contribute to the teaching mission of the department; 2) participate in professional development related to teaching; and 3) provide service to the department through recruitment and promotion activities for the Online HDFS B.S. program. Faculty may have the opportunity to be promoted to Senior Lecturer and receive Continuing Appointment.
Faculty Qualifications
- Applicants are required to have earned an M.S. by the start date of August 1, 2026 in human development and family sciences or a related discipline such as psychology or sociology;
- Experience of successful and engaging teaching as instructor on record or as a teaching assistant (including teaching experience as a graduate student) in college-level online courses, or demonstrated potential to be a proficient teacher to undergraduate students through online modalities;
- Ability to teach a wide variety of courses within the HDFS curriculum;
- Technical skills to make all courses materials accessible and compliant with university, state, and university policies;
- Experience working with Canvas or other LMS.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Applicants who have earned a Ph.D. by September 1, 2026 in human development and family science or a related discipline such as psychology or sociology.
