The Multimedia Specialist leads the creation and production of visual content that supports Boston University's Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine programs, research, and community. This role is primarily focused on photography (70%), with additional responsibility for videography (30%). This work appears across the school's websites, publications, and digital channels.

This position plays a key role in shaping the school's visual storytelling. A major responsibility includes producing photography for the biannual Boston University Medicine Magazine, including cover images and feature stories. The role also supports ongoing needs such as professional portraits, headshots, and event coverage across departments.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Capture high-quality photography for editorial storytelling
  • Lead photography for major publications, including a twice-yearly magazine
  • Produce and edit video content to support storytelling and institutional initiatives
  • Manage projects from planning through final production, including editing and post-production
  • Maintain equipment and oversee lighting and audio setup as needed

The ideal candidate is an inquisitive, self-directed visual storyteller who is comfortable taking initiative and working in a variety of settings. A background in photojournalism or multimedia journalism is strongly preferred, especially experience in editorial or newsroom environments.

This role requires creativity, flexibility, and strong instincts behind the camera. The person in this position should be comfortable working independently, thinking on their feet, and capturing moments as they unfold.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in photojournalism, multimedia journalism, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in photography and video production
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with portrait and editorial photography
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Lightroom, along with video editing tools such as Premiere Pro or Final Cut
  • Experience working with lighting and audio equipment
  • Familiarity with WordPress; basic HTML knowledge is a plus

A cover letter and portfolio are required and should demonstrate both range and quality of work.
