JOB TITLE:

Career Advising Professional

JOB PURPOSE:

Coordinate and administer career advising functions for University of Wyoming students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide career, personal, and/or academic advising to students.
  • Advise undeclared, and other students by providing individualized academic and career-focused support to help them identify barriers to success, explore appropriate majors and career pathways, and develop actionable plans for improvement; conduct proactive follow-up meetings to monitor progress, connect students with campus resources, and reinforce persistence.
  • Some positions may assist with the assignment of faculty advisors; conduct advisement training seminars for faculty advisors.
  • Some positions advise undeclared, probationary, conditionally admitted, suspended, or reinstated students to help identify and overcome their academic difficulties; conduct follow-up sessions.
  • Some positions identify and contact via telephone and on-site visits prospective employers or students for job recruitment/resume referrals of University of Wyoming students for permanent or intern/cooperative education positions; compile recruitment program information from employers and students.
  • Some positions meet with students experiencing career indecision; administer and interpret career advising-related assessments; provide an interview process to assist students in improving skills; conduct follow-up sessions.
  • Assist with College of Business student organizations.
  • Assist with the virtual career center organization and functionality as it relates to student visibility and usage.
  • Provide support for business engagement program fulfillment activities such as coordinating company days, career fairs, networking events, and other opportunities to engage students with external entities such as employers or alumni.
  • Assist with the program activities of the student success center overall.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Keep up to date on University and College policies and regulations pertaining to degree requirements.
  • Assist with special projects, as directed.
  • Serve on committees, as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: 1 year work-related experience in a higher education academic advising setting

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least one year of prior experience working within a higher education setting, a counseling/advising capacity with students, or within a talent acquisition role in private industry
  • Experience & knowledge with industry hiring trends and best practices around professional development and networking
  • Experience developing positive and effective relationships with students and/or employers
  • Understanding FERPA and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail

WORK LOCATION:

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work on campus.
